5A Coach of the Year - 2001

Brian Shelton
Valley Center High School

               Brian Shelton, Valley Center High School head coach, has led his team through a successful year to be named KWCA Coach of the Year. 

               Shelton coached his Valley Center team to a 1st place finish at the Northwest Tournament, 2nd place at Augusta, 4th place at Newton, 2nd place at Chanute, and 1st place at Rose Hill.  His team also fared well in the post-season with a 2nd place finish at Regionals and 5th place at State.

               His coaching years have included being named 1996 Wichita City League Head Wrestling Coach of the Year and coaching at Wichita Southeast for a year.  He came to Valley Center in 1998.

               Coach Shelton graduated from Wichita State University in 1992 and currently teaches social studies and psychology at Valley Center High School.
