BOB BROWN

Born in Oberlin, Kansas, in 1945, Robert L. Brown has devoted a lifetime to the sport of wrestling. His accomplishments in and services to wrestling have earned him a place in the prestigious Kansas Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame.

Brown attended Decatur Community High School in Oberlin, graduating in May of 1963. In 1962, he won the honor of being a Kansas High School state wrestling runner-up, and followed that accomplishment with a state championship as a senior in 1963.

Brown then attended Fort Hays State University for two years. At that time, his schooling was interrupted as he served in the United States Army from February 1965 until February of 1969.

After his four years of military service, Brown returned to Hays, Kansas, to complete his education at Fort Hays State, graduating in May of 1972. Brown was awarded an honor letter from the Fort Hays State University wrestling team.

Upon graduation, Brown taught and coached at Stockton High School in Stockton, Kansas, for thirteen years. He then moved to the Kansas City area, teaching and coaching at Kansas City-Wyandotte High School in KCK from 1985 until 2002. His Wyandotte wrestlers were annually winning medals at the state wrestling tournament in Wichita and were often in the team hunt for a top three trophy.

After many years of coaching many wrestlers to successful accomplishments, Brown retired from teaching in June 2002. He is presently employed at Cabela’s in Kansas City, Kansas.

For his many years of involvement in the sport of wrestling, the Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association would like to honor Robert L. Brown with an induction into the Hall of Fame.
