4A Co-Assistant Coaches of the Year - 2002
CODY DICKMAN
JOSH LEATHERURY
El Dorado High School
El Dorado’s two assistant coaches Josh Leatherbury and Cody Dickman are co-award winners of the 4A Assistant Coach of the Year award. The duo helped El Dorado qualify six wrestlers for the state tourney, with one wrestler finishing in second place. The El Dorado team this year only finished below fifth place in one tournament, had a 4-6 dual record, and had a 6-4 dual tournament record. The six state qualifiers were the most in three years for El Dorado, who also placed second at the El Dorado Tournament.
It was Dickman’s second year coaching at El Dorado and Leatherbury’s first. The two had to take on many head coaching duties this past season due to family health problems affecting the team’s head coach.
Dickman was a member of three consecutive NWKL titles at Oakley High School and two consecutive state runner-up finishes as a team in 3-1A competition. He was a back-to-back 165-pound state weightlifting champion in 1994 and 1995. He graduated from Kansas State University in 2000 and is currently teaching sixth grade Social Studies.
Leatherbury, who wrestled for Nickerson High School from 1998-2000, is currently attending Wichita State University and is serving as a Rule 10 assistant coach for El Dorado.
