5A Senior Wrestler of the Year - 2002
DOUG HOOVER
Kapaun Mt. Carmel High School
Wichita Kapaun Mt. Carmel’s Doug Hoover accomplished a feat very few Kansas wrestlers have ever done before when he took home his fourth state title last February. More impressive was Hoover’s unblemished 39-0 win-loss record and career record of 150-3 for the Crusaders.
During his senior campaign, Hoover dominated his way to gold medals at the Liberal tournament, Junction City Invitational, Kapaun Invitational, league tournament, regionals, and finally the 5A State meet in Wichita.
Hoover won his state titles at 103 lbs., 112 lbs., 119 lbs., and 125 lbs. He was a four-time state, regional, and Wichita City League champion.
On the national level, Hoover was a two-time Cadet All-American in freestyle, a High School Nationals All-American, and a Asics All-American Honorable Mention.
Hoover is currently competing for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in the Big 12 conference. He is likely to compete at 125 or 133 pounds for the Cornhuskers.
