Hillsboro High School’s Scott O’Hare is this year’s recipient of the 3-1A Assistant Coach of the Year award. O’Hare has coached at Hillsboro for six seasons, helping the team win a league title three of the last five years and put together a dual record of 58-17.

This past season, Hillsboro went 12-4 in duals winning a league and regional title. It was the first regional title in the ten-year history of the Hillsboro wrestling program. The team had eight individual state qualifiers including six regional finalists and three regional champions, under the direction of O’Hare and Hillsboro head coach Corey Burton.

O’Hare previously coached as an assistant at Ellis High School for three years from 1994-96. He helped five wrestlers win state medals, including two finalists.

O’Hare was a three-time 3-1A top six finisher for Decatur Community High School in Oberlin, finishing fifth, fourth, and third. He was also a three-time NWKL all-league selection in football. He went to compete for two years in wrestling at Central Missouri State University. He graduated from Fort Hays State University in 1996.

O’Hare, who teaches high school physical science and physics in Hillsboro, was recognized in Who’s Who Among American High School Teachers in 2001.
