For the fourth time in his head coaching career, Hoxie’s Kirk Baker takes home the 3-1A Head Coach of the Year honors.
This past season was historical for Hoxie High School, as they set state records with an amazing 11 state placers and 218.5 team points. The squad went 17-0 in duals and won all nine tournaments they competed in, qualifying 13 out of 14 wrestlers for the state tournament.
Baker began his coaching at Hoxie in 1983, taking over as head coach in 1985. He has led his teams to a top three state finish 13 out of his 19 seasons as head coach, netting seven state titles, four state runner-up finishes, and two third-place finishes.
Baker has coached 25 state champions and 78 state placers. His career dual record is a very impressive 159-39-3. Baker’s other Coach of the Year honors came in 1990, 1994, and 1999.
