5A Assistant Coach of the Year - 2003
MARK RICHARDSON
Arkansas City High School
After many years of contributing to the success of one of the most dominant wrestling programs in the state, Ark City’s Mark Richardson is named this year’s 5A Assistant Coach of the Year.
Richardson has coached 24 years for Ark City High School and also four years at Ark City Junior High. He has helped 36 wrestlers win state titles and 14 team titles have been won with his assistance. Four of those individual state titles were garnered by Richardson’s two sons. Cody, a senior in 2001, and Ty, a senior in 2003, each were two-time state champions for Ark City.
Richardson helped lead Ark City to the 5A State team title this past season. The squad managed to place five wrestlers in the finals with two winning gold medals.
Richardson serves as the Tech Lab teacher at Ark City Middle School. He graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma in 1974.
