6A Assistant Coach of the Year - 2004

Leavenworth’s Matt Long is this year’s selection for the 6A Assistant Coach of the Year award after helping lead the Pioneer wrestling squad for the past three years.

Long helped the LHS grapplers go 6-1 in duals and win the Sunflower League team and 6A Regional championships. The team also finished 12th in the state with four placers.

Long also has devoted his coaching services to the Fort Leavenworth Kids Wrestling Club as the team’s head coach for four years.

As a competitor, Long was a three-time state qualifier in 1994, 1995, and 1996 and a KWCA All-Academic team performer in 1996 by excelling in the classroom as well as on the wrestling mats.

Long works as a sub-contractor for remodel construction for his full-time profession.
