4A Coach of the Year - 2005

Dennis Charbonneau’s Clay Center team took charge and won the 4A state title in 2005. They had nine state qualifiers and seven placed, all in the top four.
His 10-1 dual team also won two tournament titles before state, the Clay Center and Silver Lake Invitationals. They were second in the Valley Center duals and at Rossvile; and placed third at Newton, Beloit, and Regionals.
Charbonneau coached at Anderson County for seven years before coming home to his alma mater in 1997. His teams have been in the top eight at state every year and have won two league, two regional, and two state titles. He has had 66 state qualifiers, 35 placers, nine state champions, and 13 All-Americans.
He teaches Chemistry and Physics and graduated from Fort Hays State in 1989. He was a three-time state champion at CCCHS and two-time Academic All-American at Colby CC. This is his second 4A Coach of the Year Award.
