Corey Jones is one of two 5A Asst. Coaches of the Year, along with coaching staff member Ben Jiminez.
Jones helped lead the Hornets to an 18-5 dual record and an 11th place state finish. VCHS placed first at the Washburn Rural Championship Duals, 2nd at Bishop Carroll, and third at the Colby and Valley Center tournaments.
Jones, who teaches eighth grade science, previously was a head coach at Wellington and at Kapaun, and has been an assistant at Valley Center since 2001. He won two league titles at Wellington and was a state champion at Kapaun.
As a competitor, Jones was a two-time state champion at Kapaun and a Junior National Champion in Greco-Roman. He also won a gold medal at the Olympic Sports Festival in 1986. He competed collegiately at Clarion University from 1987-91 and at the University of New Mexico from 1991-92. He was an NCAA Div. I qualifier and had a college record of 82-48.
