Shawn Linenberger was nominated for a KWCA Media of the Year award by Tonganoxie head wrestling coach Jeremy Goebel. Linenberger has worked as a sports reporter for the Tonganoxie Mirror for four years and has provided outstanding wrestling coverage for the Chieftains.

“I’ve covered Tonganoxie last year, as well as the previous three,” explained Linenberger. “Also had the opportunity to cover Ross Starcher, who had the highest finish in school history at state this year at second place at 171 in class 4A.”

Linenberger previously was a reporter during his high school and college days for the Washington County News. He was also sports reporter, copy editor, associate sports editor for the University Daily Kansas at the University of Kansas.

“Wrestling is an unsung sport that arguably is the most demanding,” Linenberger said. “Seeing the atmosphere that has surrounded the state tournament in Wichita, it’s clear that the sport needs its share of media coverage. It’s been exciting learning more about the sport during my time in Tonganoxie.”
