5A Assistant Coach of the Year - 2006

JUAQUIN ZAPATA
Bishop Carroll High School

Juaquin Zapata of Bishop Carroll High School is one of two 5A assistants of the year, along with colleague Kevin Knapp. Together, they helped lead Carroll to the 5A State Championship.

The Carroll squad went 12-0 this past year and have been GWAL champions five times in a row. The team has won the last two 5A state team titles. Last year, 5A was arguably the toughest state class, many thought.

Zapata previously coached at Hutchinson from 1993-98 and at Newton from 1998-99. He has been at BCHS since 1999.

Zapata is a counselor at Bishop Carroll. He graduated from Emporia State University.
