Gary Blosser
Gary Blosser began wrestling at Topeka’s Seaman High School as a sophomore 185 pounder. During his junior season he was a 4th Place Kansas State medalist at 155 pounds and was the 155 pound Kansas State Champion his senior season. Blosser followed his prep career at Pratt Junior College from 1970 – 1972. While competing for Pratt he qualified for Nationals in 1971 and finished 4th at Nationals in 1972 as the team captain. Blosser went on to compete at Colorado State University from 1972 – 1975. In 1974 he was WAC Conference Champion at 150 pounds and was second in the WAC Conference at 150 pounds in 1975. He qualified for Nationals both years. In 1974 Blosser placed 6th at the USA Federation Open and competed at the Olympic Trials in 1972 and 1976.
Blosser became Coach Blosser when he served as head coach at Coffeyville High School from 1975 to 1978. He spent the 1978 – 1979 season as an assistant at Washburn Rural High School. From 1979 to 1990, Coach Blosser headed the Santa Fe Trail High School program. He continued as an assistant at Santa Fe Trail from 1991 to 1995 and at Santa Fe Trail Junior High from 2005 to 2008. While coaching many Kansas State qualifiers and Kansas State medalists, Coach Blosser accumulated a 122-16 dual record and a 3rd Place State Team finish in 1978 at Coffeyville. Additionally in 2008, Coach Blosser became an inaugural inductee of the Santa Fe Trail Wrestling Hall of Fame.
Coach Blosser’s contributions to wrestling extended well beyond his role as a high school coach. From 1975 to 1990 Coach Blosser officiated many summer freestyle tournaments, coached at Junior National camps, Kansas Kids camps, and Junior National Tournaments. He served as Kansas Junior National Director from 1990 to 1996. Also, he has volunteered at the Kansas State Wrestling Tournament for the KSHSAA from 1995 to 2005.
Coach Blosser is married with two grown children and two grandsons. He includes hunting, fishing, canoeing, camping, and motorcycling as hobbies.
