How about Chet Mercer from Columbus. Really came on strong at crunch time. Winning regionals and finishing second in the state as a freshman is a good start on his high school wrestling career.

I don't know how great of season he had, but freshman Lakin Dreiling of Scott City had an unbelievable state tournament by placing 3rd and picking up several pins along the way. He gets a vote from me.

Kyle You POS putting yourself on there instead of Brendan. But yes, Lund was a Sophomore, and Yes, Kyle does deserve some consideration.

Adam Almaguer(0S) had to be it. He took 2nd in arguebly the toughest weight class out there. A ridicious amount of state finalists and champs in his bracket and as a freshmen makes it to the finals. Hats off to u kid and keep on bringing home medals.

Adam Almaguer of Olathe South did very well this year. He lost to Edgmon in the finals but went out there and wrestled like he was wrestling 'just another guy.' He didn't appear to be affraid of the name like a lot of other wrestlers may have been.

He gets my vote!

Was there any freshman that won state this year? I can't think of any of the top of my head.

I will throw out Zach Hentzen of Maize. runner up at 140 where more upperclassmen compete. I would be interested to know if any freshmen won state.
