K-State Wrestling Club Boosters
Meeting #2 16 Oct 05
Hello Boosters,
We’re making great strides in supporting the K-State team! The team is up and running with a full contingent of 22 wrestlers. They practice consistently on weeknights at 8:00 P.M. in the REC Center. This is their best start ever.
Before getting into results, I want to ask everyone who is a booster to assist us with quality control of information and action. Drew Welchert is the Club President, Beau Tillman is the coach, and Dave Andrus is the Faculty Advisor. Anything that affects the team is worked through them. That includes event scheduling, administrative actions, finance, and information dissemination.
The purpose of the boosters is to assist the club team in any way possible. By strengthening the team through fundraising, background administrative support, logistics support, teambuilding support, and marketing support, we hope to help them climb the rankings from #10 in the nation to the very top of the National Collegiate Wrestling Association. So far, we have put an organizational structure in place and have had two meetings. The purpose of the meetings is to build camaraderie with the team and it’s supporters, to update progress on issues, and to tackle new issues. If you want to be a part, please come to the meetings if possible and bring a friend.
Attendance: Drew Welchert, Beau Tillman, Dave Andrus, Erik Hinckley, Bob Gonzales, Brad Johnson, Mike Fitzgerald
Coach Gonzales at Manhattan High has gotten approval for the K-State team to use the High School Gym one night a week which they may do later in the season. He has also found an additional mat that they can use.
Mark Miller has built a web site for the team and Drew Welchert filled out all of the forms to add it to the K-State site with Dave Andrus (their new faculty advisor). Hopefully we’ll know something soon.
Dave Donnert and Mike Fitzgerald are working on securing Transportation to their first tournament on 5 Nov.
Brad Johnson and Dave Donnert are working with the team to have a photo taken that we can use for posters.
Mike Fitzgerald provided information on fundraising opportunities at K-State.
Drew Welchert demonstrated to us the financial system for the club. He made clear to us that funds are only for official purposes.
Ron Tacha
AII@sbcglobal.net has begun leading the charge for money. He has a great quote "If we can not fund the club team, then we have no chance of getting a DI team." That very accurately captures the sentiments of everyone that I've talked to about getting it going here. Ron says that you can send checks to:
K-State Foundation
2323 Anderson Ave
Suite 500
Manhattan, KS 66502
You must earmark your donation for the
wrestling team only. I encourage you to e-mail the club President (Drew Welchert) at
acwss25@yahoo.com so he knows to expect your money in the account.
We identified some other potential boosters, and some issues that may make good research projects for K-State Students.
We talked about our long term goal of adding wrestling as a Division 1 sport at K-State. Our consensus is to build the club team and begin working on a proposal that we will eventually bring to the University.
If you want to be a part of us, attend the next social beginning at Porter’s West Bar for the Chiefs game on 27 November at 12:00 followed by our meeting at my office Recruiting HQ right next to the DMV.
