From what I gather from this year, is Joe Cornejo unhappy at his current institution? If memory serves, I believe he was unhappy about redshirting?
If someone could keep me up to date about Jornejo, that would be great.
(If he wants to transfer, Hofstra University is a fiiiiiiine institution and he has a personal invitation from the Vice President of their Student Government Association to do so...or so I've heard.)

I talked to Joe's mother at the Newman dual and he blew his knee out and will be having surgery soon. I believe ACL/MCL/ and Meniscus tears. I am saddened to hear that but am sure that Mr. Cornejo will rebound fine and will be wrecking shop at the National Level soon enough.
Good luck on your recovery!

Hmmmm. . . Interesting. When did he practice with you? Maybe he hurt his knee AFTER practing with you guys? I imagine that Coach Church got correct info. So, whats the real story?

Church posted on 1/20/06 - therefore it is possible that he hurt his knee after practicing with you.
In any event, does anyone know for sure the current status of Joe's health/knee? I'm assuming that he is hurt until i read otherwise.

Joe is fine with the exception that he did hurt his knee and will have surgery. I believe he has only lost a couple of times this year prior to hurting his knee. Coach Church heard correct and would not post anything unless he was sure of the facts.

This is Joseph Cornejo and I just wanted to clear things up for everyone. I did injure my knee and I am out until next year. I ended my season with a 16 & 3 record & 12 pins. One of my losses was to our starter 3-2, one was to Dustin Schlatter of Minnesota who is currently ranked # 1 in the nation at 149 14-7, my last loss was due to my knee injury I was winning in the finals and had to injury default out. I'll be back next year hopefully at 100%. Also I am happy with NIU wrestling. I also want to thank the Kansas wrestling community for thinking of me and their support. I plan to make Kansans proud!

Joe, I know Jacob Marrs suffered a knee injury too and because he wrestled in opens only it will just count as a redshirt (regular, non-medical). Is this the same scenario for you? Will you still have a medical (if need be) and 4 years?

How do you like DeKalb? Personally, I find it to be the worst D-1 college town in the nation. Although, I guess you get into games for free...so that's a plus.

I spoke with Joseph and his mom this week and he had his surgery and it was successful. He is doing PT (Physical Therapy) already and will start bearing weight by the end of the week. He expects to be back ready to go next season. He is very happy with his school and has a bright future.

That's unfortunate that he's happy with his school. I was hoping we could woo him over to Hofstra.
