Kind of a disappointing showing for the UNK tournament...I cannot believe how many teams have kids out with sickness
Only Eric Luedke represented CCC, finishing second in the tournament. He wrestled very well, looked dominant on his feet, and especially on top.
Fort Hays had a number of guys participating, minus standouts Andrew Ubben and Meister, probably sick also.
UNK also had a number of their athletes ill, Jon Hausserman who placed at the FHSU tournament. But other notables were Hille (Trego) who wrestled pretty well, Swager (Goodland) who is wrestling 197 this year!!! Those of you who remember him will not believe how good he looks...he's lost over 130 lbs. still can't believe it myself!
Highlight Kansas match...Abbey vs. Tovar
This match has traditionally been a barnburner, with I believe Abbey leading the series in only two years of college, 5-2. The match was dominated by Abbey, with the score ending up 9-2. Abbey is unbelieveable this year...he looks twice as good as he did last year. He is probably the best wrestler in DII, maybe even DI. He took #2 Luke Eustice into overtime at the Kaufman-Brand Open in Omaha, and will wrestle #1 Jason Powell of Nebraska the 22nd in a dual meet. This kid has been wrestling tough, and there will be some other notable matchups with him vs. other kansas kids later in the year with UCO (Saferite) and others. Will keep you posted.

Saferite doesn't have the starting spot as of yet...it is still to be determined. As for:
Abbey is unbelieveable this year...he looks twice as good as he did last year. He is probably the best wrestler in DII, maybe even DI....
I don't know about that statement, going outside of the Kansas wrestlers on D2 I'd have to say that Omaha's Hwt Sigmon is a beast...as for including D1, and all weight that might be the biggest stretch....afterall there is Roberson among others..

Dear Mr. Sweazy:
I did not interpret Triple R statement regarding Abbey "literally".
I believe the statement "probably the best wrestler in DII, maybe even DI." was meant to infer Abbey to be the best at his particular weight class of 125 lbs., as the examples used were other wrestlers at this weight class, not in Divisions I and II as a whole.
Were one to interpret all of another individuals statements literally, how would one interpret this statement "I'm drawing blanks on others" of yours? Are you drawing on an Etcha Sketch, drawing pad, etc.,? What does a blank look like?
Have a joyous Holiday and safe travel!

Abby is good. Shawn Sylvis is just tough as heck now. I am glad to see he is wrecking shop in D2. I kinda wish he would have finished his last season as a D1 competitor. Would have been nice to see.

Mr. Slayer had my thoughts exactly. I think that Abbey is the toughest 125 pounder from Kansas wrestling right now, Saferite is up there too. It will be interesting to see how he comes back from his redshirt year.
Roberson and some other mentionables are at the "top of the heap" (that's one for you aaron), it's good to see those kids doing well. Hopefully he will have a great showing at St. Louis this year, it broke my heart last year to see Bo Maynes not bring home some hardware, but hats off to a humble, hard working kid.
Silvis is another story. That kid is a true talent, and I concur with mike church's statement in regards to him wrestling DI, but you gotta be loyal to the Bronchos, they wouldn't be near as tough without him. No matter what, that kid is a competitor, peaking at nationals every year. Him and I had some battles, I always knew it would be two Kansas kids going at it, he was just too talented.....

We here in Columbus feel that Austin Devoe varsity wrestler for the University of Missouri is the best 125 pounder from Kansas.

You're entitled to your opinion, I would love to see a round-robin with Tovar, Saferite, Devoe, and Abbey. Sorry, I forgot about Austin, I hope he does well this year....

There are quite a few good 125 pounders from kansas doing well in college. Without wrestling head to head, who knows. Saferite (augusta) UCO and Abbey (goodland) UNK have the hardware to prove it. DII All americans. Tovar(abilene) UNO looks to be on track to do it this year also. He defeated Abbey last year if my memory serves me correct. And how about that bunch kid (i believe he was 125 for Edinboro, D1, a national qualifier and won some matches at d1 nationals last year. There is no Doubt Devoe is in their class but just probably needs this year to prove it. All of these young men should be applauded for their diligence and accomplishments.

I would put Abbey above Devoe..as for Saferite, it depends which Saferite Steps onto the mat....Devoe lost to a UCO 3rd Stringer 2 years ago at the CMSU invitational, so there's no telling, everyone has their good and bad days.

Having the luxury of working out with devoe last year and previous years i've gotta say he is tough, BUT not near the level that sylvis, or abbey are right now. Or for that matter bunch. Gotta have luv for austion coming out of SEK, but those guys are proving whereas austin is struggling abit this year...

Austin is wrestling in D1. Quit comparing the minor leaques to the talent he matches up with every time out!

hey if you lose heads on with a 3rd stringer I don't care who it is...but like I said...somedays are better than others...as for Bunch, he's redshirting, but was doing fairly well at the Missouri Open until he blacked out after cramping...if he was cramping that badly at 133, then he should maybe go up to 141 in this year off.

Anyone who has wrestled in college at any level will tell you that nine out of ten times when you go to a collegiate tourney you will wrestle D1, D2, NAIA, or NJCAA schools. My last college match was against Mizzou's 141, and that was also the last time I talked with Austin. D1 or not you are gonna catch good kids. I wrestled for labette and still wrestled a decent d1 kid, so I have no doubts that a tough D2 kid like Sylvis or Abbey could easily hang with the D1 guys.........

The minor league comment blatantly proves your ignorance of a great sport. It is becoming more difficult all the time to be Div. I elegible right out of high school and even tougher within the big 12. There are kids across Juco, NAIA, Div II & III, that are in the top of their weight class all classes combined. It is unforturnate that like years ago that by winning your respective National Tourney you got an entry to the Div NCAA's. There would be more then one non Div I guy contending for a title...
