Any word on weights and starting probability for Kansas wrestlers next year. I know Stewart Bogart is going 149, and probably will start.

I'm guessing that Saferite will be at 133 for next season. I also think Eric Johnson might knock out an A.A. for the varsity spot at 141 next year if he's down to that weight.

Did Stewart stay in Oregon to train over the summer?

Not entirely, he came back for a bit to hang out and spend time with his friends.

At Nebraska: Hoover will wrestle off at 125 (2nd semester), Spaulding will wrestle off at 133, Murray will red-shirt (unless Nedens gets hurt), Klein will wrestle off at 165. Huskers could have 3-4 Kansas boys with starting spots this year.

Murray is a National runner up, why would he red shirt?

Hey CoachJT, looks like a little pride in the new avitar. That's good though. See you later.

Coach JT, how's it going? I think I can shine a little light on the reason why Murray may redshirt. I know it may not seem logical but consider some of these things:

1. He has never red shirted and needs a little break from cutting a lot of weight.

2. He is recovering from surgery.

3. Chris Nedens from Montana is the same weight. He is exceptionally tough. . Actually beat Murray a couple of years ago in a wrestle off. . .I had to ref the match. That stunk because I am really close to both guys. My reffing probably stunk too. . ask Jim Murray. . .just kidding.

4. As a staff I think the NU coaches want to give Matt a recovery year, use Nedens at 141, and then see who goes 149 out of the two in 2005-06 season. . .probably Matt. He's bigger and leaner.

ps In their only 'real' match in a competition Matt won 9-2 when he wrestled for Colby and Nedens wrestled for NU.

Is Keller at 133 lbs. redshirting also. It is my understanding Keller has bulked up, and will not cut to 125 lbs.

Eric is taking for granted that Dusty will be able to make weight at 133 lbs. As Eric well knows, this past summer Dusty was no where near 133 lbs. and likely will be too fatigued from cutting all the weight he will not beat Keller.

Keller will go 125 and is one tough hillbilly from Cleveland, Tenn. His head feels like a bowling ball with a wig on it! I've busted my nose on it twice and he's given me stitches under my chin and above both eyes. I still say I've gotten the best of him though. LOL

It's no forgone conclusion that he is varsity however. He must beat out promising Doug Hoover who is strong and lean. He also will have to face Chad Sportelli (PA) and new top recruit Paul Donahoe (MI) who may redshirt.

Oh yeah, Spaulding is on a "special diet" I guess. They're not letting him lift a lot, which I think is silly. But I've only cut 25 to 30 pounds for 20 years. . .what do I know?

I agree with you though, 133 is possible for him, but will be a challenge of a lifetime for Joe Duste`. He's a thick kid.

Eric-
How much is Dusty going to be cutting for 133? I saw him and he does look pretty thick...33 sounds a bit low for the kid. Also, in the few web broadcasts of Paul Donahue i saw, it appeared he was a bit undersized for a 119lber, wont 125 be too big for him? It seems like he has a lot of filling out to do in that lanky frame of his.

I'd say Dusty gets up to about 155-160 in the off season. He's in the 140s right now I think.

Donahoe is a little "skinny" and does have some filling out to do. I've wrestled him a few times this month and he is very scrappy. Considering my extra weight and "old-man strength" he has done very well against me. With Powell as a workout partner he'll develop into a title contender really fast.

I see. I hope that he contends for the top 8 soon.
