What teams are competing on Saturday? I think K-State is going but I don't know how many or who is competing at each weight. Anyone have more info on this tourney?

From what I heard 2x Defending champions UCF is making the trip in from Florida which should add toughness. Don't be surprised for OU to send backups. Bacone might send a mix of guys. UCO may send a car load.

It shaping up to be a goood day of college wrestling. For what I hear from the UTD coaching staff every bracket has atleast 8 wrestlers other than 197, which has 5. I'm looking foward to watching some college wrestling down here in Texas.

Teams
UTD, Tx Tech, A&M, TCU, TCC, Colorado, KU, KSU, Tulane, La Tech & Newman

Keep in mind they also have a 235 weight class for NCWA which should be fun to watch. Do they plan on a round robin for the 197 weight?

So who is this Ivan Pinney guy? I was supposed to wrestle him last year at the regional tournament and he injury defaulted in the finals. I smell something fishy, and it's not 5a wrestling, this time....

The Newman University Jets made the most of their trip south to the SWC Open hosted by the University of Texas at Dallas. The 2nd year NAIA program looks to be growing strong under head coach Mark Stovall placing 15 wrestlers with 6 champions. This allowed them to easily take the team race with 78 points. Kansas State University, led by 133lb champion Sean Cillessen, placed 2nd in teams points with 28 points with 4 wrestlers placing.

This program will definitely be a contender for the conference title in February. Tarrant County College had a successful NCWA debut, placing 3rd with 22 team points. The team was led by 197lb champion and the tournaments Outstanding Wrestler Beau Hohmann, who pinned his way through the tournament. Gabriel Reyes took the 141lb championship and Marcus Collins placed 4th at 149lbs. This is an impressive achievement for the 1st year program.

The University of Colorado placed 5 wrestlers taking 4th in team points with 21 points. Colorado coach Steve Hart stated that he is very excited about the direction his program is taking both in the number of wrestlers coming out and in the support the program is receiving from the university. Colorado will be another team that should be at the top of the list for the conference title in February. Led by veteran 285lb champion Ivan Pinney,

Texas Tech University placed 5th with 12 team points. While it is a young team this year, Coach Chris Lemaire should have this ready to compete in February. Texas A & M University placed 6 wrestlers and looks to be an up and coming program. Tulane University was represented by 133lb Lance Nicoll, who placed 3rd. Rounding out the tournament were the University of Kansas, TCU, and the host University of Texas at Dallas.

The NCWA Southwest conference looks to be growing in number of athletes in all of its schools which should make for a very competitive conference tournament in February. The 1st annual SWC Open had a total of 65 entries from 10 schools. We look forward to a bigger, better tournament next year.

Chris, I am not sure if you have heard this yet. There was a meeting for the KU Wrestling Club this weekend with myself, Nathan Hartshorne, Shane Miller (who along with Klint Deere are former high school coaches helping with the coaching this year). Nathan and Shane told me that Joe Zlatnick from Rossville is starting to practice with the team. I would think with him, you and Mark Robinson possibly at 197 that you three guys could offer a pretty good threesome in those upper weights. You would also be good practice partners for each other. I guess I am trying to recruit you for second half participation with the KU Wrestling Club. I think you could make a good run at the NCWA nationals this year, if you do choose to wrestle.

Well, the reason I haven't made it to any practices is because I work every tuesday, thursday, and every weekend day. However, today I kind of quit, so I will probably make it in fairly soon. I'm like 230 I think, but I'll still wrestle 285 with all of my fat brothers.

Good, Chris. I hope you can join the team soon. It is my understanding that they are going to try to have one more week of practice before semester break. There might be an early meet on January 15th (still in the planning stage) so if you can make it up to practice this week that would give you a jump start on it. The heart of the schedule will start in late January and the beginning of February.
