Note from the 5A Rankings Coordinator:
This is the most challenging one so far; so many changes! We will have to see who emerges in some of these weight classes. Mind you some of these were educated guesses. Race for team top five is very close. Head-to-Head and Commons are the criterion; beating other ranked wrestlers from other classes does count! Let me know about mistakes…everyone else and their mother does! Cheers!

Is the person that does the rankings from the KC area because there are alot of individuals that always are ranked high with there 32-1 record and go home from the state tourny with a record or 32-3 just wandering.

The coach who prepares the ranking compiles information from the 5A coaches from across the state.

so wrasslin fan what are you saying? clearly you think theres some kc area wrestlers that are ranked higher then they shouldnt be. who are you talkin about? kids from st. thomas aquanis? they finished 4th as a team last year...maybe your talking about hansen from turner? o wait, hes a 2X state champ. are you saying that wrestlers from kc should be ranked lower simply becuase they are from kc? plus...you clearly dont know what your talking about because there was not one wrestler in 5A last year with 30 wins that went 0-2 at state. not a single one.

I noticed on the KWCA wrestling rankings they have Jed Mamie at 171 and ranked 3rd and he's listed at 189 ranked 3rd on this forum posting. Any idea where he's going to be wrestling this year?

Jed Mamie has wrestled at 189 lbs. at both the Leavenworth and Eudora Tournaments. The rankings posted on this thread are the most recent 5A rankings and have not yet been posted to the KWCA web page.

Mamie wrestled yesterday at the JOCO Classic at 189. He dominated most of the day but his semi-final match with Matt Baker (SM East) was extremely close. It was tied until Mamie got the takedown with 10 seconds to go.

There were some great finals matches between ranked 5A wrestlers at the Classic yesterday.
171 - #4 Nill beat #2 Berscheidt
215 - #5 Curtis beat #4 Hammer
Also, Stokes (103 #6), Williamson (112 #4) and Scott (140 #4) took 1st. There is also a newcomer that won 285 named Jacob Nowak (STA). Number 5 ranked Baca got 5th in that bracket. I'm sure you'll see Jacob in next weeks rankings.

Baker wrestled great and made Mamie work hard, but Baker got pinned in the third period. Mamie, Millstead, and Scott, all three from STA pinned every opponent at the Classic.

So did Serbousek and Almaguer, the two OWs, pin all their opponents, too?

No, they did not. Both of those kids had close victories over Aquinas kids in the finals. Adam had a close win over Henes, and Lance beat Markey in a tight match as well.

If you saw the match, it was MUCH more than wrestling him great and making him work. Baker was up 1-0 going into the 3rd. Mamie tied it and took Baker down to his back with less than 10 seconds to go. The fall(really?) was called with 3 seconds in the match. Everyone that actually saw the match would agree that Baker has closed the gap on Mamie. I do want to add that Jed Mamie was a class act after the match. He seems like a great kid that STA can be proud of.
