34-30 is right. Goddard has a tough team. I didn't think Ponderosa looked as tough as in previous years. Ponderosa is especially tough at 119 and 145. Ponderosa was pretty average at 125 so I wasn't especially impressed with Caldwell's 1-0 win over Snyder. Could have been an off night for Caldwell though. I wasn't at all impressed with the officiating. Too many stops in the situations close to edge of the out of bounds, but not out of bounds. Avoiding controversy in opinion. One fall for Goddard was clearly a touch fall. There was absolutely no way a two second count was made. In all a enjoyble dual, but I think Goddard could win the tourney this weekend.

Jacob Snider is the #1 ranked 125 pounder in Colorado. Certainly not average. Is that who Caldwell beat 1-0?

Is this the norm for around the State? It's been my observation and have seen comments in other threads about the stopping of a match for even touching the line. It seems to me that the official should just tell the wrestlers to circle back to the center! I like the new college rule... wrestlers must pretty much leave the mat not the circle. That maybe exaggerating a little bit but they let the guys wrestle. The line is considered inbounds and if anyone is "inbounds" it's game on!

Snider at 125 is deceptively tough, he should win state this year. He's a freshman too so he's going to be a beast later in his career.

112- Before you start making excuses Goddard (like last year), 112 is one of Ponderosa's best weights so I suspect Ponderosa would have won there anyways.

I didn't realize that Snyder was #1 ranked. Not to be disrespectful, but he still looked average to me, especially, if he can't get off the bottom.

I was not making excuses. I was just stating a fact, they may have won but what if it was only a dec then Ponderosa would have won 31-30. I give Ponderosa all the props they did very well last night and I think if they dualed Goddard again it would probably be a very close dual again and the outcome could possibly change, who knows. But on this night Ponderosa was the victor.

bye the way is Snider @ 125 Jesse's little brother?

Yeah, Jake Snider is Jesse's little bro. Tough family. I remember Jesse (the older one) had a real close match as a freshman against one of Hoxie's studs, I think at 125 lbs.

I was just remembering last year when Ponderosa smoked Goddard at GC by over 60 points. I wrote the national rankings guy with the results and he replied, "Yeah, but THEY said they were missing two guys." So what??? Ponderosa won by over 60 points. Two guys could have pinned their way through, which they wouldn't have, and Goddard still wouldn't have won.

What ticked me off though was that someone from Goddard obviously had already written the guy and explained why they lost, and obviously convinced him that they would have won otherwise.

Anyways, Goddard stayed in the national rankings while Ponderosa actually goes to wrestle the serious competition out east and can't get ranked nationally for the past few years. Sour grapes I guess.

Well if your going to go that route...Last year I believe Goddard was missing 4 people...not two...

PS: Got info that Beard suffered first loss in his career in that Ponderosa duel

Oh, so Goddard was missing 4 guys now? Well Ponderosa was missing 6 guys last year, and the other 8 were sick with the flu, and three of them had to be carried to the mat, and one wrestled on crutches, and they still beat Goddard by over 60 points. lol

What is the website that has the GC results? I want to see where Goddard was missing 4 guys. I only remember two, remember the national rankings guy telling me two, and I remember one of the Goddard coaches telling me two.

It seems to me that Goddard never has a full line-up.
If they are the best team in the state, why are they losing duals and tournaments all the time.

Okay, I found the website that has last years GC results:

Goddard was missing 3 guys, 119, 145, and 215

119 went on to finish 6th at state
145 went 1-2 at state
215 dnq for state

So these three guys would have scored and extra 60+ points at GC last year? I don't think so.

at that Time 145 was Brandon Bonewell he tore a tendon in his thumb the weekend before(watch him this weekend he is wrestling 152) and was replaced at regionals later in the year they also had a JV kid wrestle @ 160 So that along with 119 and 215 makes 4 kids However they still may not have made up the extra 60 pts. required. Not arguing the win just sticking up for Chase

Did Goddard win their league last year?

Maybe the two guys that I remember everyone talking about were the 119 and 145, and when they said two guys they meant two good guys.

Ponderosa is "missing" two guys this year. Their 103, ranked #2 in the state, quit the team, and their 189, 2x state champ, was kicked out of school. It's a shame because they really should be a lot better.

Maybe I can end this. I was the coach last year. Goddard was missing four of our regular varsity guys at that time. It doesn't matter. Ponderosa beat us. I have no clue if it would have made enough of a difference. It doesn't matter. Ponderosa was the best team there. They were very impressive and I enjoyed getting to speak to their coach. He was very personable, and I could see why the kids wrestle so hard for him. A lot of junk gets talked about the team in Colorado, and it must just be jealousy.

Granbyonaroll: To answer your questions/remarks about Goddard.
"It seems to me that Goddard never has a full line-up. If they are the best team in the state, why are they losing duals and tournaments all the time."
I wish I knew why we had so many illnesses or injuries in the past. Probably due to poor coaching(last year). Maybe I wasn't smart enough to take it easy on them enough. Maybe it was how tough the schedule and practice room was. Maybe it is the nature of the sport. I'm sure I have no sufficient answer for why we lose so much. Lost two duals and placed second in three tough tournaments in two years, winning the others. Sorry.

"Did Goddard win their league last year?"

Goddard did not win league last year. Lost to a very good Valley Center team. We did enjoy the last tournament of the year, however.

Thank you,
Ryan Jilka
