Well if your going to go that route...Last year I believe Goddard was missing 4 people...not two... Mr. Colorado, No where in my post did I say that the missing guys would have made up the remainder of the points. It seems to me like your getting a little too up-tight and making an issue out of nothing. Before you start making excuses Goddard (like last year) No one at all on this thread made any excuses for Goddard for this recent duel, OR last years GC results. Our team last year walked away knowing that Ponderosa the better team. Seems like your trying to open a can of worms. It also seems like you have beef with Goddard being ranked nationally last year. Well if anyone knows anything about this sport is that rankings for the most part are just for fun, and thats how it was treated mostly in our room. They really never mean anything. Its the final tournament that decides everything. But one thing about your recent posts is your lack of information and making claims off of it. What ticked me off though was that someone from Goddard obviously had already written the guy and explained why they lost, and obviously convinced him that they would have won otherwise. Well first your information on how many of Goddard's wrestlers were out for last years tournament and now your claiming this? The Wichita area has quite a few people in it...maybe someone from a different school that was there wrote the rankings guy? Or maybe no one wrote him at all?? But what I'm trying to say is...what does all of it matter? Let em' wrestle

I said BEFORE you start making excuses, because I know you did last year I didn't want you to start this year.
Nationally ranked Goddard is about to be 0-3 against unranked Ponderosa, and Goddard will probably remain ranked and Ponderosa will not become ranked. It doesn't make sense. Anybody from Goddard who claims "missing guys" is just asking for an earful. It's not missing guys, so don't even suggest it.
FYI though, I haven't heard anybody on the Ponderosa team or coaching staff say anything about any of this, they're a class act. This is just one fan's opinions.

Just an unbiased observation here Parker, CO...If the Ponderosa team or coaching staff haven't said anything about any of this, and that makes them a class act, what does it make you???? LET IT GO MAN....

It makes me unclassy, just like Goddard for suggesting that it is missing guys instead of Ponderosa just being better.

Again, please don't think I'm a Goddard Homer, because I'm not. What are they (Goddard) supposed to do about being nationally ranked? Should they E-mail or call the ranking officials & ask to be taken off the rankings? It appears to me that Goddard has attracted enough respect, both @ the state & national level, to be ranked for the last two years. I don't think they've done so by being "unclassy." My guess is they're ranking is actually due to #1 They're 6A Kansas State Championship last year, and #2 due to at least a handfull of their wrestlers having success @ national caliber tournaments.

I left the GC tournament last year with a real respect for Goddard. They were friendly and real good wrestlers. As I said, I got home, emailed the results to AWN, and he said, "But they (as in Goddard) said they had a couple missing guys". That's unclassy, they got beat (by a lot, fair and square) and they turn around and say it's because of missing guys. As a result they have stayed in the national rankings for the past year and Ponderosa remains unranked.
I've been waiting for this dual for months for Ponderosa to set the record straight that they're the better team, they did, and the first thing that is said is that Goddard was missing a weight. I jumped on it to say "don't even start with that crap".

The line is out in wrestling, just like football. If both wrestlers are out, it has to be stopped. Some officials do stop the match in some cases to prevent/avoid any controversy with an edge of the mat call if there's nothing significant going and to keep the action going..sitting near the edge isn't too exciting. That's good officiating in my opinion...
And to our Colorado friends, please forgive our manners, we sometimes forget them. I am certain both these teams are very talented, respected, and well-coached or no one would be writing about them.

I'm not sure why I feel obligated to do this, but I can tell you that we (Goddard coaching staff) did not send any excuses to AWN last year. As a matter of fact, I didn't send anything to national rankers until contacted by them after state. I do feel that I know who did it, and it is not someone affiliated with Goddard. It is just a big advocate for Kansas wrestling. However, it is possible that someone affiliated with our team COULD have done it. I'm sure you realize that sometimes an anonymous person will speak for their team, even when they should not.
There is no doubt that after seeing Ponderosa; if Goddard deserved a ranking,Ponderosa certainly did. I'd think of apologizing for not submitting a "why we shouldn't be ranked" letter to AWN, but your anonymity prevents me from knowing who to send it to.

Ryan...You mean it's possible that the respect Parker, CO once had for the "friendly and real good wrestlers" of Goddard has been tainted by a crazy fan???? You bring up a good point about both teams being ranked. It's obvious Ponderosa has an outstanding wrestling team & they're probably even friendly. It's also obvious Ponderosa has performed better than Goddard has, as a team, when in the same tournament/dual. I think what we should do is write a letter & get as many signatures as possible & send it to AWN. It should state that if Ponderosa can't be ranked, Goddard refuses to be ranked. That's it!!!! We'll send it to Parker, CO & he can sign it too, if he likes....What was your address Parker???

Coach Jilka, we all know that it wasn't just your fault your team wasn't any good last year, it was also due to a poor showing by your freshmen last year.

I must say I do like the Beard Schroeder matchup a lil better than if there were a rematch.

1-0 Schroeder.
In my opinion, the Ponderosa wrestlers, coaches and fans are top notch. To say anything otherwise is jealousy. The only problem that I saw with Goddard was their 152 pounder...he could be a great kid, but he pushed the envelope pretty hard with officials a few times. With another official, I think he may have gotten ejected. From the outside looking in, he seemed like a high maintenance kid.

Anybody from Goddard who claims "missing guys" is just asking for an earful. How is it a claim??? Was Goddard not missing guys at the duel or not?? And when did ANYONE on this thread say that was the reason they lost?? they simply put the results of the duel! Update:
103 Rotha won 112 Goddard was open @ 112 sickness 119 Holmes lost 125 Caldwell won 130 Elliott lost close match 135 Fischer won 140 Means won 145 Houlden lost 152 Bonewell won 160 Bo LOST 171 Villegas lost 189 Elliott won by fall 215 Hicks lost by fall 275 Irons won It was simply stated...no "thats why they lost" BS...just simply stated what happened

Now here goes, a friend of one of the Ponderosa Dad's and wrestler, Zeke, and friends and sometimes coach of some of the Goddard wrestlers, and while a rival, a great deal of respect for their coaches, fans, and wrestlers. Here are my thoughts, and will be short,
#1 Both teams deserved to be ranked.
#2 I wouldn't be concerned about any single ranking service, there are many out there, and AWN is to say the least, the most controversial of the rankings services.
#3 No good team with a tough schedule, and tough practice room is ever at "full strength," they are always losing someone for all kinds of reasons. You know what they say about excuses, except the fact that a team, includes the back ups and sometimes that is what you have to go with.
#4 Congrats to both teams, very strong, both deserving of respect, and again, both deserving of a national ranking. Maybe with more respect for both Colorado and Kansas they will some day get it.

Well then I suppose Bishop Carrol and STA deserve a ranking, too? All of these schools have great programs, I know for a fact, but winning at Garden City, Newton, or Basehor isn't nearly as tough as Ironman, Beast of the East, or other tournaments that put the top schools in the nation against eachother. That's not to say our good teams don't have the ability to compete at these tournmaents, they just don't. I don't know Ponderosa's schedule, but I'm pretty sure the reason most good Kansas teams aren't ranked is because they don't face any of the teams nationally ranked. Isn't that why Goddard was ranked last year, because they defeated Bishop Lynch, a nationally ranked foe? KSHSAA really ties down the hands of teams with their restrictions on travel, but I would like to see something like what Oak Park did a couple years ago. Bring in a couple tough teams from local states and have a quad dual, and make sure it's televised. There's some recognition for ya!
