It is sad to say it because Columbus could definately use him this year. He came out at the very first of the season. Then, after three practices, he decided to quit. Said, "I just don't think it's worth it." I feel he really just doesn't care. It is just sad to me when he had the ability to more than likely win a state championship. Nobody should ever give up that chance. State championships are pretty rare and hard to come by.
Take a guy like me that loves the sport but was not good by any stretch of the imagination. I had one winning season in high school, and went on to a music scholarship for 2 years not because I didn't want to wrestle, I just didn't have offers. I got to UCO and walked on, that place was a stud farm...I found myself behind this one guy that was a gym rat and also took me under his wing. While state champions, National qualifers, and All Americans were quitting, he kept me going through the rough days including a year that saw me have 0 takedowns in the wrestling room!
I love college wrestling because for the most part you weed out who wants to be there and who doesn't. These guys are commited to wrestling and for the most part love the sport, you weed out the ones that are just there for the scholarships pretty fast, but maybe Chet just needs a break...I wish him well, heck I remember guys sitting out of wrestling the first 3 years of high school and winning state their senior year. I hope he at least comes and supports you guys, and that you in return although he isn't wrestling with you support him as a friend and former teammate.
