The NJCAA West Central Zone Regional Qualifier is at Neosho County Community College on Saturday, February 10, 2007!

Wrestling begins at 9 A.M.

Colby, Labette, Pratt and Neosho all competing for the opportunity to advance to the NJCAA National Championships!

How many schools will be there, how many kids from each weight get to go on to nationals, and what kansas kids are expected to make it on? A lot of questions i know but im just kinda curious how that all works.

I'm not sure about the schools but I know there are 4 from Kansas, I believe 3 from Wyoming and throw in a couple more from Iowa. 4 young men will qualify at each weight. Then the Coaches get to pick a handful of wild cards... I believe 4. I’m sure somebody has the fine details. Team wise I’m partial to Neosho but I think Colby is the one to beat. Top to bottom they are for real! With the addition of the kids from overseas! My new hero is Naota Saga from Akita, Japan. After he wrestles he bows to the opponent and then the Ref, followed up by to the Coaches…to cool!

The NJCAA West Central Region in wrestling includes:

Colby College,
Labette,
Neosho,
Northwest College,
Pratt Community College, and
Western Wyoming.

I believe it is the strongest region in the nation based on team placings, individual champions, and number of All-Americans.

I know that Tyler Baker of Colby lost to James Fox and Levi Younkin was upset in the semis I believe.

How did 133 turn out? That weight is pretty stacked with Dawson, Baker, Baldridge, and Fox.

gee whiz ... who was #3 ... who was #2 ... and the Champion? I've been trying to find results!

Labette 1st with everyone qualifing except 157,hopefully Joe will recieve a wild card,as we will need his points at nationals.I believe he was ranked 6th going in.He's been in a bit of a slump as of late but is capable of beating most anyone in the country.I believe most coaches know this and expect to see him compete with the rest of the Cards in Minn.Congrats Coach Renfro,May,and the rest of the Labette staff and TEAM.I think anything less than National Champs will be a dissappointment.GO CARDS

If Ryan Hecker of Northwest Wyoming at 133 is ruled out to compete due to injury, then Tanner Dawson of Neosho C.C.C. at 133 becomes the qualifier in his place and Joe Yust of Labette C.C. at 157 becomes the second wildcard selection from the West Central Region.

It is difficult to fathom Coach Chas Thompson from Pratt Community College not winning the West Central Region Coach of the Year award after leading a first year program to a fourth place finish and only four points out of a second place finish.

Congrats to Coach Renfro and Coach Thompson!
