I've seen several posts on this board asking about TV coverage for 4,5 and 6A State. It would be nice if all classes were covered, but probably impossible, especially 5 and 6A.
3-2-1A is very lucky in regards to live TV coverage. I had the incredible experience, along with my broadcast partner Troy Rietcheck of live play-by-play of the quarterfinals, semis and finals for Smoky Hills Public Television.
I don't want anyone to thank me for my role in the broadcast, but I'd love to see an email or thank you card sent to Smoky Hills Television. I'm sure this year's broadcast was one of the most viewed ever, especially with the snowy weather. We had to have thousands of viewers across Kansas.
I also want to encourage businesses who have strong ties to wrestling to consider sponsoring the broadcast. Call Smoky Hills TV at 785-483-6990 and have them put you on a list to contact next season. It's a great event to sponsor, it's nice publicity for your business in a broadcast thousands will see and heck, it's a tax writeoff. I bring the sponsorship up because it is costly to break in with 7-8 hours of live television instead of normal programming. If the sponsorship is not there, this WILL go away. No wrestling fan wants to see that.

I just got home and rewatched the Smoky Hills coverage of 3-2-1A. What an awesome undertaking that must be. So much time, effort, and preparation to put together such a broadcast. I did take the time to find the Smoky Hills crew last night to thank them for their hard work but I agree with Mike...thanks to them is the least we can do.
On another note, I thought Troy and Mike did a wonderful job with the commentary. I had several family members who couldn't make it to Hays on Saturday and they were so appreciative of the coverage. I also had several family members listening around the country to the Oberlin coverage via the internet. We're so fortunate in this area to have that caliber of wrestling coverage. Let's let them know we appreciate it. As Mike says, we don't want to see it go away. Thanks to everyone who made this tournament a weekend to remember!!

Thanks A B. I appreciate that. Smoky Hills Television used to tape delay JUST the finals and now do three frontside rounds live plus the tape delay, which is cool.

Might not be as impossible as you think, especially in Salina to cover the wrestling state tournament. I know the Local Salina Access is always looking for things to televise and even distribute to statewide audiences. They do sports events, but you pretty much need to get your own crew to help with it, they will provide a producer and such, but I would even think local colleges with Media Students could put on an effort and at least sale copies of the state tournaments with profits going back to establish scholarships for KSHSAA Wrestlers and that college's media department or something.

Like everything in society, it comes down to money. Can 4A generate the same kind of revenue that 3-2-1A generates? It would be great to be able to watch the 4,5 and 6A finals, at least on tape delay.

Once again the finals on Smokey Hill were great to watch the next day, Troy Reitcheck did a really nice job and once again Mike Holliday reminded me why he had such a great face for radio, just kidding he did a great job also and even mentioned my name on air without slaming me which is always nice. Anyways once again it was great to watch yesterday and thanks for all the sponsors and everyone who helped out with it.

I would like to watch it to see how many times Holiday makes a reference to EK Franks or Gooch.

Franks and Gooch would only be mentioned if I did a 4A broadcast.
