Movie is actually quite good despite what the previous post said. I actually have a few copies of the movie and am going to Blockbuster at Pawnee and Seneca later today to leave them a copy. My email is mike@furches.org, phone 316 943-6786. I have 2 copies, had 9, for sale but expect them to go before Christmas.

I just returned from Blockbuter at Pawnee and Seneca to give them a DVD copy of Reversal and they wouldn't accept it. I know there has been trouble regarding their franchise carrying the video. Yet they carry soft porn, horror B movies like Killer Klowns from Space etc. I frankly don't understand. I understand that some may not like the movie, that is okay because many others do but it is also important that people deserve choices. Unfortunately those wanting to see this movie should be given a choice without being forced to buy it. I know that is also the film makers desire, Jimi Petulla. Why anyone would be opposed to someone seeing this movie if they want is beyond me. Anyway the district managers name is Teresa Cowley and her phone number is 722- 5670 extension 942. I would hope that wrestling fans would make the effort to persuade the stores to carry the video or DVD, at this point it really is about more than wrestlig. By the way on a donated copy even the film maker doesn't make anything.

I don't know why any wrestling fan would want someone to see this movie. It showed nothing positive for our sport. It focussed way to much on weight cutting and not enough on what great things come from a dedicate wrestler!!!

BigPen, I continue to be surprised at why some are critical of the film. I know of the comments and thoughts regarding the film, especially from the negative side. I am aware of them because of many of what I know to be factual mistruths about the movie. One of the things I am speaking of is the comments regarding paid endorsements, etc... I know that to be emphatically untrue. I saw the movie with Kendall Cross who has been responsible for many athletes seeing the movie out of friendship. I think that those having difficulty with it also have difficulty with the many "real" NCAA, and Olympic Champions that have endorsed the movie. I have also spoken, again, personally and face to face with Danny Hodge and Kenny Monday on several occasions. I know that those individuals also speak highly of the movie because they thought highly of it. I am pleased to be in good company with many great wrestlers and athletes that have supported it. I didn't want to reply like this but had to make my comment due to the fact that I could not respond to you off line through the email list. I only challenge people, to ask themselves why so many athletes are supporting the "reality" of the movie and the story itself? Especially since all you have to do is when attending a national tournament is ask most of these athletes themselves. Most of the time they are there and will give you their honest opinion. I have found that their opinion is exactly what is on the promotional material. Oh Yea, why should someone watch it? Simply put it is the most accurate portrayal of wrestling I have ever seen in a movie and is one of the most thought provoking stories in a long time, especially when it comes to fathers or mothers for that matter trying to live their dreams through their kids. Just seems like you can do T&A along with fornication and a high school student sleeping around with an older woman and that be considered "good" for wrestling and another movie that shows the "horrors" of inappropriate lifestyles and behaviors is a "bad" movie. Go Figure. By the way I would love to debate the issue, for fun, if you or any other so desire but I think to carry it on on the forum is not necessary. Email me off line, which is of course others choose to carry this on on this forum in a civilized way.

We know a guy that owns a DVD rental store. Is Reversal out of DVD or just VHS? He said that he would try to get it. He is supposed to call me and let me know. If he is able to get it, I will post it and let you all know where to go find it at.

I like movies, many kinds of movies. After hearing about this one, I was very excited about purchasing it and watching it with my sons. Finally it arrived, I couldn't wait for my boys so I plugged it in..................................man that movie SUCKED with a capitol S. I feel ripped-off. So many people claimed it had "christian themes". Now people are saying that it's "reality based".... wow, what a lame excuse for a piss-poor movie. WARNING, Young men watching this movie will be exposed to : dope smoking, acceptance of dope smoking, use of drugs to lose weight, throwing up to lose weight, parental abuse, and at the end of the movie the main characters father provides his son with money and transportation to drop out of school, quit wrestling and move in with his drop-out uncle. Nice conclusion, very different from the reviews. My movie will not be watched by my sons, they see enough crap as it is. Don't anyone ask to borrow mine, it's been thrown away.

I agree with everything Mr. Hensley said! It is a terrible movie and I can't believe there are so many high figure wrestling people backing this movie. It is something that the wrestling people shouldn't be promoting. Why promote a movie that goes against everything we are trying to achieve these days?

Couple of things, yes the movie is available through the distributor at http://www.reversalthemovie.com. Couple of responses, to previous posts, does the movie show the things you mention? Yes, someone dies, and a number of other negative consequences as a result of those actions. How does showing the bad effects of a particular lifestyle promote that lifestyle? Regarding themes, I am one that reviewed the movie on a number of forums and I would be glad to debate the issue of the Christian themes any day, any time, in the words of the judge Miles Lane, "Let's get it on!" My reviews are available at http://www.hollywoodjesus.com, http://www.crosshome.com and on my web site at http://www.furches.org. This movie has won prestigious Dove Family Film award and numerous others. I'm still frankly amazed at how everyone else in the sport, especially those who have excelled and the awards festivals and others are all wrong. By the way, I don't believe that anyone watching the DVD's or VHS copies can intelligently support the position that the movie promotes bad habits. I guess people will have to watch for themselves and once they do they can make their own evaluations. Personally, I have been around wrestling for a number of years and am again pleased to be in the company of those supporting the film. The movie portrays the movie promotes the dangerous aspects of weight cutting authentically and realisticly. A concept that will hopefully disuade parents from allowing these things to take place in their own children. By the way those supporting the movie include: Cael Sanderson - 4X NCAA Champion, John Irving - Academy Award Winning Writer, Kurt Angle - Olympic Gold Medallist, Sting, Carl Lewis - 9X Olympic Medallist, Alan Utter - Appalachian State University, Shannon Miller - 7X Olympic Medallist, Glen Hibdon - Tulsa World, Kendall Cross - Olympic Gold Medallist, Dr. Ted Baher - (Most Respected Christian Reviewer in America) The Movie Guide, Nancy Schultz - the widow of Dave Schultz, Jeff JohnCox, - The Oklahoma Daily, Danny Hodge - Olympic Wrestler, Doug Lukens, - One of the most respected Christian Awards - The Dove Foundation, Kenny Monday – Olympic Gold Medallist, David Tempelton – Pittsburgh Post Gazette, Jack Spates – Head Coach University of Oklahoma, Cary Kolat - 2X NCAA Champion and Us Olympic Team, Ed Blank – Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Bill Welker – WrestlingUSA.com, , Wrestling USA Magazine, Myron Cope – Voice of the Pittsburgh Steelers and numerous others. Now I challenge those on the site to look at the names, publications and others that are used that have given the movie negative reviews and bad press, I think you will be amazed at the lack of specifics and detail in those comments. Watch the responses and see how they respond to those that have endorsed the movie, the ones that have succeeded the most at our sport. There has only been one that has had their name used that has given bad press publicly to the movie, Ken Chertow. There has also been ample evidence where Chertow did not actually review the finished release version of teh movie. I could go into a great deal of detail about that persons views and comments, but then again all you have to do is watch the movie to see how wrong he and others that use the excuses like in the above post are for yourself. For most of those that have been involved with the sport for more than a novice season or two they will know how authentic the movie is, see for yourself and make your own conclusions. I frankly learned in debate class though that you look at those presenting the facts before basing your own opinion. I challenge that those watching the movie, DVD or VHS will quickly learn who is honestly presenting the facts. I will say that movies like music require subjective opinions. Those opinions vary from individual to individual, I for one don't like certain kinds of movies, but I am careful to evaluate those movies on their merit, not simply on the fact that I don't like a certain style of portrayl. At least in the comments be honest as opposed to presenting half truths; example, people are smoking dope, yes they are but the one character dies as a result of their habit. The other wrestler that ends up drinking instead of training ends up loosing a match to decide who goes to state. Another is that while the one wrestler quits, he is actually following his dreams as opposed to his fathers. What is wrong with these types of portrayls unless one believes that even in a great sport like wrestling that the wrestler should live out the dreams of the father. You call teh uncle a "looser" but that uncle in real life had a successful business that allowed Jimi Petulla to make more money in life than most of us reading this post will ever make. How is that being a looser other than the fact that we might not like what he does for a living? In conclusion, I present that a half truth on items like these are in reality whole lies. This will be my last post on this subject. Anyone wanting to email me to debate off line, or get factual evidence feel free to email me off line.

Mr. Furches, you and I are entitled to our own opinions. I do not however, appreciate being called a liar. Ten people could see the same thing and report it in ten different ways. I stand behind my previous post, there were no half-truths in it. For instance, the girl died from injuries sustained in an attempt to evade and elude law enforcement officers. Not from smoking pot. True, the alcohol and pot would inhibit ones ability to operate a vehicle, but it was her rebellious attitude (run from problems) that was the underlying issue throughout the movie. The uncle is a looser, not because of his choice of occupation, but because of his attitude and view on life. He seduced the family into thinking that education and dedication to family and nation is unimportant. It is my strong belief that without those underlying principles our great nation will fall. The uncle also insinuated that it would be better not to participate in sports and thereby not be prepared physically for military service (if it was needed). This is also a rebellious load of crap! Without discipline, dedication and much education we will loose our freedom. We cannot survive without our doctors, scientists, teachers, soldiers, etc..., and we need people to just encourage others to excel in life, not quit! This movie was also advertised as a love story between a father and a son. But it wasn't that either. The ultimate love a father can give, is to provide for his family, and he fails miserably. He fails in the area of providing direction. He just gives up and sends the boy to his looser uncles house. Sad ending, it could have easily been a movie all could enjoy. I hope everyone reading this will borrow the movie from someone, don't rent it or buy it and support the writer.
