Last weekend was state and I saw lots of great matches. But I want to know if anyone saw any matches that were really really close and maybe someone won or lost in only the last few seconds. What was the best match you saw?

Sharky got second he made it to the finals and with 5 seconds left he went for a lataral drop and the kid landed on top of him and he he got pined with the back points and the time he would have lose anyways. He was a good stort about it not many kids who win state for 7 years in a row would be good about it.

dennis wood and sharky had a heck of a match at district sahrky won 10-8 and 4-2 in double overtime. At state there was a restart with 19 seconds left and dennis shot a knee pick and sharky blocked it. dennis came up to his feet with and underhook and pressured into Sharky and got an inside trip Sharky landed on his back and Dennis covered on top with a saturday night ride and pinned him. Give Dennis his due Sharky did not miss a lateral drop, dennis is an excellant wrestler and deserves a little credit for beating one of the most accomplished wrestlers in the state

in fact the run down of the match first period sharky gets a takedown and goes up 2-0 after a restar Wood gets an escape score 2-1 period ends.Second period Wood goes down gets an escape score tied 2-2. There is a restart with about 5 seconds left Sharky shoots nice low single on the whistle goes up 4-2. Third period Sharky picks neutral. Good wrestling oppurtunity for both wrestlers to score and neither do. Then the restart with 19 seconds left and above post explains what happens.

Yes, Rhett was a surprise to me too. I felt bad for him and Mike. Brett and Mike Dunlap too.
And so was Jeremie Maus' loss in the semies.
PS: Adam Weber showed some great sportsmanship in the toughest of times.
I am lucky and proud to know young men with such good character.

What about Bo Purcel at 10U 70 getting beat by Aaron Engels in the semis. Aaron wrestled an awesome match, 5-0.

Chase Locke of Maize vs. Dylan Schumacher of Hays
it was one of the last matches of the first day that I happened to catch and I might ad that Dylan Schumacher got screwed.
0-0 entering the 3rd, the ref gives a two-count, but no points were awarded, Dylan Schumacher had done a move and should have been awarded at least 1 point if not 2 for a reversal, score remained a 0-0 entering overtime Locke's coachs complain about the two backpoints not being awarded The ref gives in and awards Locke 2 points and Dylan was screwed out of the finals.

There is plenty of others that saw this match as well. It was certainly poor official communications. Near the end of the 3rd period the ref did wave a 2 count for back points and singled with his fingers 2 points. That is on video tape. The table failed to record it and the time ran out in the 3rd period. With the score clock saying 0-0 he attempted to start an overtime period and that's when Locke's coaches called time to ask about the back points he waved. Many of the coaches in the area and table workers heard the ref say he thought he only had a 2 count and there is no points for a 2 count. Fortunately there was another ref on the mat getting ready to take the next match and saw the 3rd period action specifically the 2 count. The first ref concocurred with him and he stated the 2 count does earn the 2 back points. There really was no giving in merely 1 ref reminding the other ref of the scoring rules. The match was a great match and Locke came out on top on this one, but he earned it and it wasn't given to him.

I might add that Locke winning is certainly no upset. I will remind you that Locke won state last year in a killer bracket with Deshazer and Seybold.

Probably not the biggest upset, but Kazmir beating Moeder is one that I would not have expected.

I had the same ref from the Locke match tell me that it took a 3 count, not a 2 count, to get back points. Me being mister nice guy, and wondering if there was a rule change that I should have been aware of, didn't argue. It didn't effect my kid's match outcome, but I'll be darned if I didn't see, less than 30 minutes later, it did effect the Locke Schumaker match. The outcome was the correct one. The question was the ref thought it took a 3 count, when itonly takes a 2 count. Once the other ref told the ref in question that it only takes a 2 count, he knew that the 2 should have been awarded, and did so.

I dont know where anyone saw the ref award the 2 points. I was on the sidelines and also have the match on tape, being Dylans dad. 2 points were never awarded till after the match. The second ref told us that the two points were awarded because he saw the ref count two but did not see whether Dylans back was exposed for the full 2 count. We have all seen a ref start a second count only to wave it off or not award the points. The only point the ref attempted to award was in the second period when he awarded Chase a point for no reason. Dylan was riding Chase attepting to turn him. The ref then took the point back after he realized he didnt know why he awarded a point. Anyone that has the match on tape will see this. Either way, this was a great match and a tough weight bracket with Bo Purcel also being beat in the semis. We need better officals with the knowledge it takes to officate at state. Its okay to have such an offical at local tournaments but not at state. The best wrestlers are at state, we need to ensure the best officals are also there. Congragulations to Chase on another state title.

The surprising part of the Kazimer/Moeder match was the 9-0 score. Also, Dennis Wood's trip was amazing. Sharky handled it with class. A true champion's heart.

Flood losing in the first round was a big upset to me, I thought for sure he would be in the finals.

I was also suprised or shocked with Moeder losing. Also Bo Pursel losing in the semis. It was good reminder or wake up call that kids can have bad days.I know both those kids and they will be back.I'm not saying that both of these upsets were flukes,Kazimer&Engels are studs and only going to get better.
