You must assume they are the same weight and age:
Kyle Detmer vs Ross Taplin
Romero Cotton vs Bo Maynes

Sure. Or Bunch. Or some of the other great ones. Actually, I was reading the untouchable thread and trying to think of past wrestlers that would be similar in untouchableness. Who would you compare their untouchablessness to?

I have heard that Bo Maynes not only finished his High School wrestling career undefeated, but also without ever having been taken down. (If that is true, was that limited to only Kansas wrestlers?)

In HS, did Roberson and/or Bunch ever get taken down?

I never saw him but others on this board have -I heard tales of a heavyweight that pinned everyone his senior year. Broyles? Is that his name and did he pin everyone he wrestled his senior year? Was he a multi-time state champ? I just remember hearing he was a 'man among children' when he wrestled his senior year.

I believe your are speaking of Jeff Boyle from Norton. He was a multiple time state champ. Pretty certain he won it at 215 as a junior and 275 as a senior. He was certainly a man among boys his senior year. He was selected to the 1st Team 1997 Asics All-American Dream Team.

Yeah, that sounds like the MAN. Did he pin everyone he wrestled during his senior year in HS? (not counting Nationals - not sure how he did there - I was talking his Kansas High School senior season). I heard he also played some pretty good football. Thanks.

I may be wrong on this but I don't know if anybody made it out of the first period against him.

He was a 3 time state champion. He wrestled in the Dapper Dan instead of wrestling at sr. nationals. His sr. finals match his sr. year lasted 22 seconds.

Jeff and I were teammates at Norton. Here is what I can remember. He won state at 185 his sophomore year (beating the returning state champ in the finals of regionals and state- Chris Dennis from Oakley). He won 215 his junior year going undefeated and won 275 his senior going undefeated.
In Jeff's junior season he wrestled 31 actual matches (not counting opens). He won 28 by fall. He won one match by decision (Alex Haines from Colby), one match by major (Jim Keller of Saint Francis in the state finals), and one match by stalling DQ.
Jeff did pin everyone his senior season (29 actual matches wrestled). 6 kids made it to the 2nd period, none made it to the 3rd. The first point he gave up his senior year was a penalty point for covering a kids mouth while he has halfing him (he may have given up a few escapes after that, but I would say he gave up fewer than 10 points all season). In the state finals he pinned Cody Parks in the 1st period (Cody went on to be an All-American at Fort Hays State).
He wrestled in the Dapper Dan classic after his senior season and then went to Wyoming to play football.
I would say that as far as recent history Jeff was the most untouchable wrestler Kansas has produced. To take that title away would in my mind require all pins and giving up virtually no points in a season.

Doug Duell, Roy Oesser, David Ray, Todd Layton, Greg Unruh should all be candidates.

I remember my 7th grade year, Boyle's Sr. year, wrestling a dual at Norton. I was warming up and saw a rather large shadow engulf me. I turned around and it was Boyle and Philpot coming through the gym doors together, barely fitting through!

Gene Noce should be considered in that group. Last two years had 58 wins and 1 loss for 2 state championships; had 5O pins. Very physical wrestler.
