With regionals starting tomarrow, seeding meetings will be going on all over the state. Who are the best coaches at getting the best possible seeds for their kids? Not always the higher seed is an advantage for kids. Match-ups are an important part of getting a kid through a bracket, and ultimately qualify them for the state tourney. In our area I think Norton does an excellent job of getting their kids the best possible match-ups, and this part of coaching I think is often over-looked.

I once witnessed Harry Lamar get a kid with a losing record seeded back in the 80's. I be danged if the kid did not win regionals and place at state.

I would agree that this aspect of coaching is overlooked. I can't ever remember a discussion on here about the ability of coaches to get their wrestlers the best seed.

Regardless of how good someone is as a debater, the only way a wrestler can get seeded at regional with a losing record is to have a win or wins over seedable wrestler(s).
That said, some coaches are better at connecting dots--that is, who beat who that beat so and so that gives my kid an edge over someone where we have no common opponent. In that regards, Kirk Baker and Bill Johnson are the best I have witnessed.

I'd like to see what exactly went on at these meeting from a wrestlers perspective. It may have been helpful to see the process.

With the teams those two coaches have had over the years it was probably in the best interest of the opposing coaches that even their lower tier wrestlers got seeded. I wouldn't have wanted them drawn in as my kid's first round matchup. Any given Saturday when you practice with the kids they did.
