This is one tough weight this year, especially in District 2.

You can probably mail the gold to Jarret Jurgens from G.C. Greater Gold, no one has come close to him this year at 58 or 61. Then behind him you have two more state placers from last year 8U/52 lbs. (both in District 3) in Treaster from Newton and Joint from Junction City. However, rumor is both Treaster and Joint have dropped to 55 lbs.

If that is the case, that leaves the District 2 boys to battle it out to see who can qualify and have a shot to claim four state medals. Unfortunately some really good kids will not make it to state. In District 2 alone you have Ayala - WWC, Terrill and Shaw - Ark City, Grantham and Murphy - Maize, Spexarth - Wichita Greater Gold, Guyer - Andover, and Cassaboom - Winfield. A group of good kids, that on any given day, anyone can beat the other. No wonder Kansas wrestlers are so tough!

Gary Joint will be wrestling at 55 lbs this weekend not sure if he will stay 55 or go back up to 58 lbs. The choice is his he loves the competition at 58 alot of good wrestlers there this year. He likes wrestling treaster and has had some good matches against spexarth this year he told me he wants to wrestle Hunter Terrill again and he hasnt had a shot at jurgens this year bt then you have steele at 55 lbs gary and tate always has close matches so where he ends up is all on him we will know where he will be in the next week or two.

Will Spexarth is doing the same as Gary Joint, trying 55lb. this week to see if he likes it or what. Just like Gary, I'm letting Will make the call on his weight. If he finds it too hard or starts complaining of being hungry all the time we're going to be back at 58lb. for the remainder of the season. YES 58LB. 8u is loaded full of top quality wrestlers (not only in district 2) but all across the state............Too Bad They Can't All Go, Each One Wants It More Than One Can Imagine!!!!!Good luck to ALL the Kansas boys going this weekend.....See you there...

Logan Treaster is at 55 for now. Surprisingly, it hasn't been too hard for him to make it, but a growth spurt would make it difficult quickly. Realistically it doesn't matter which weight a kid wrestles because there are good kids at every weight. But I'll admit 8U/58 has more depth than some.

Well, if Treaster, Spexarth, and Joint all go to 55 then that weight looks pretty tough too when you figure in Parenti-Ottawa, Steele- Team Tiger, Webb- Salina, Schroeder-Haysville, and Gentzler-Jaguars.

What's the thought process behind dropping down a weight class this close to state? Is it all about the medal? My boy started out at 8U/58 but I didn't want him to have to worry about cutting weight so he moved up to 61. That 61 weight class is a tough one too - but, I figure you stay where you've wrestled all year - you see who's the top dog in your weight class at state.

My thought process is my boy has been wrestling at 8U/58 all year but has been weighing in at 55.5 to 56 all year without watching what he ate now that we have been eating alot healtier he is making 55 easy why not have him go to 55 i have always put my kid up the next weight class the last 4 years just in case he hits that growth spurt but he hasnt why let him wrestle kids that out weigh him by 3 and even 5 lbs by the time they wrestle thats a big weight difference thats my thought process. Theres tough kids in every weight 55,58 and 61 i really dont think to much of a difference in were you end up but extra weight when you are wrestling someone is tough espeacially when you get to districts and state.

I agree with you. Especially if he's so close to the lower weight. I have just heard people talking at tourneys about having their wrestler cut weight to hit that lower class.

I have to put out there Andrew Brautman from Augusta. If he wants it bad enough, he will place.

He has wrestled in some "a" brackets, but I can't remember which tournaments. It just depends on which Andrew shows up to wrestle. If the good one shows up, then he's dominating. Just might keep an eye on him.

Lucas would be a tough 58 pounder but he has been at 67 all year. I would have to say Jurgens would be the favorite but lots of good kids.

9lbs. holy cow, what is his true weight? Most kids only wrestle up 1 weight class not 3.

Seems like a game of "cat and mouse" to me. All of our wrestlers want to make it to state, (in district 2 especially) who is weighing what and who is going to what weight division. Us coaches who are good friends already know the answer, but are still trying to stratigize the best way to make it to state. By asking our kids what they want to do. It's up to them, and all of us respect their wishes. (Man what a battle this will be!!!)
