When did Detmer let it be known that he was going to pin Tapia in the first period?

HA! Excellent point. Saying he said it and then quoting the source so that other can verify are two entirely different things. . .

Last I knew which was a couple years ago, Darrell Andrews was the head coach @ Lawrence Free State. Is he still there ?? I believe it was 89-90 when he won his 2 HS state championships and am thinking he was around 160 lbs.
to his defense, he was a year younger than I was but I would venture to guess that I was the last person to pin him which was in the finals at kids State 16 & U- 145 lbs because he won HS State the next two years. he was a stud, I just got lucky and caught him. I was very happy for his successes in the sport as he is a swell guy and glad to see he has a program and is sharing his knowledge/expertise at the HS level and building a solid program. I believe that Ian Bork wrestled under his tutelage.

The greatest "are you kidding me's" in 4A were without a doubt.
Jake Kober and Sharky wrestling for 5th?? Alan Callahan not placing and scoring only 3 team points at state (4 then -1 for unsportsmanlike).

Back to Upsets:
160# 3A Cody Hanel of Beloit over Kelly Younkin earlier in the tourney
Cody wasn't even considered to be there at 1st -- But I knew he would be! way to go Cody!
You have to learn to win and learn to lose and you have to learn it is alot MORE FUN TO WIN!

Palmer over Racette wasn't a surprise to those of us who knew Racette was pretty sick and running a fever on Friday. Most of the Oakley team was sick. No excuse and no one's fault. It was just an unfortunate circumstance that some of them couldn't compete at 100%.

defending champ kober losing in quarters and then going on to lose again in the consolation bracket is the biggest upset. going from 1st to 5th is a big drop. slyter did the same thing but at least he got to the semis and was possibly in the toughest bracket. everyone thought kober was just going to roll through his bracket no problem (me included).

tksnkc, thanks for setting KC Handballer straight. Naylor was so exausted and thought he would just give up the two. I was amazed by Whitley quick thinking to not jump for the two but instead take a step back, look at the ref for 1, then hop behind for the 2. Before OT started everyone in that arena knew who was going to get the takedown. Whitley looked as if he only stepped out on the mat to start the first period.

hey, it looked like he stopped completely. if he was that exhausted, fine. i was right there watching the match in the first row, it just looked like he stopped. if he didnt he didnt. everyone in our section thought he stopped on another whistle. if that was his plan just to give up the reversal, fine, great move by whitley. i also felt once that went to overtime, whitley was going to win. all the credit in the world to whitley.

Chewie was doing the clock for the whitley/naylor match. What do you think Chewie? You were right there as well. I mean naylor did not move at all to block whitley at the end, was he really that tired.

I think Naylor was tired and thought he was just going to give up the reversal and win by 1. I remember that it caught me a little by surprise as I was prepared just to put the two up on the board.

ok, i will go with you chewie. i stand corrected. it was definately very surprising for a guy as good as naylor to give up points like that with so little time left. i thought the match was over and honestly thought you made a mistake because i was saying to myself "this match cant be tied can it?". thanks for the imput chewie.
