USA Wrestling Girls Folkstyle Nationals set for Oklahoma City, Okla., March 14-16

For the first time, USA Wrestling will host a national championships focused exclusively on folkstyle wrestling for young women.
The USA Wrestling Girls Folkstyle National Championships will be held at the Freede Center on the campus of Oklahoma City University in Oklahoma City, Okla., March 14-16.
National champions and All-Americans in women’s folkstyle will be crowned for high school, middle school and elementary school athletes. The event will be held using National Federation of State High School Association rules.
Awards will be given to the top eight individual in each weight class in elementary school, middle school and high school divisions. Team awards will be presented to the top three state programs.
The event will be held alongside the annual Women’s College Freestyle Nationals, providing the young wrestlers in attendance a chance to be seen by college coaches. A College/Club Fair is being organized, where young athletes can receive information on the women’s college wrestling programs.
Top college wrestlers from the Univ. of the Cumberlands, Missouri Valley College, Oklahoma City Univ., Pacific Univ. and Menlo College and the Northern Michigan USOEC program, as well a numerous college club programs, will compete for the national championship. This will allow the young wrestlers to witness the best college women athletes in action.
“This is a big step forward for the USA Wrestling women’s program,” said event director Archie Randall. “What is exciting to me is that we will be able to showcase our college women’s wrestling programs, while showcasing all of women’s wrestling in general. To have grade school, middle school, high school and college women athletes in the same venue at the same time is a tremendous opportunity. We can now truly promote women’s wrestling.”
