this tournament was an absolute JOKE last year. POORLY ran from the director. VERY unorganized....save your money folks and stay home....but if you're going to Branson anyway...spend your entry fee on go cart rides....seriously several from our club went last year and very few are returning...to those of you that go, best of luck

Not a real huge turnout, 4 to 8 man brackets. It was in Ozark MO last year.Only in its third year hopefully it will get better. Below par for a national tourney, but where else u gonna wrestle this weekend, Jace and Dallas Koelzer from Olathe are going.

Lateral drop, The tournament I'm guessing had possibly 250-300 kids at the most and i'm being generous here....I do believe that it was the 2nd year for the tournament, last year it was at Ozark MO. The year before and this year it will be in Branson MO. I was told the HS division was pretty tough. The organizer didn't have all his bases covered for tournament workers, so when the tournament began there were no table workers at several of the mats. Luckily there were several parents who jumped in and got the job done. As far as quality of wrestlers...my son was in 3 man round robin and all were good wrestlers. The younger divisons had many combined weight classes to get matches in for the kids. I have heard through the grapevine they are expecting more kids this year but who knows, my suggestion is to call the guy and maybe you can get a feel for the numbers in your wrestlers age and weight class. There are a few comments about the tournament on MissouriUSAwrestling.org that you can read also to get other peoples input. If you do make the trip best of luck to your wrestlers.....we'll be staying home. I could elaborate further but i'm not really into mudslinging and I do want the tournament to grow.....we've got 4 more years to wrestle.

If i added correctly 89 Div 2 -5 wrestlers and 88 HS wrestlers....looks like there will be many combined weights to get matches....best of luck to the folks that go. The HS division looks tough, hopefully there will be some good matches. With the low numbers hopefully they can run this better than last year, then once they figure out how to run a tournament maybe the numbers will go up and in a few years they can actually be considered a "National Event"....long way to go with less than 200 signing up. I wish them the best!

65 TIGER you were correct. I wish I would have seen your warning before we went. We would have rode the ducks instead. By far the worst ran tourney this year. Its a nice place, great idea, but they just need someone to run it. The kids division was combining weights way beyond the USA limit so the kids could get matchs they said. The High School division was combing ages from 8th grade to 12th grade. My baby had whisker burns on him from one of his opponents and the kid went outside to smoke a cigarette after the match. Heres an idea for a new tournament name, THE SHOW ME WHAT A TOURNAMENT IS NATIONALS. Also $32.00 per wrestler sign up fee, $20.00 coachs pass fee, insane.

This is actually it's third year in existence and it sounds like it hasn't gotten any better... we went when it first started (in the Branson Rec-plex) and it had that creepy feeling of a time-share sales trip from the very beginning (they actually had us register at a Branson tourism center and told us that if we went to look at a time-share property after the tournament that they would give us some kind of cash prize!). The facility was small, the brackets were small, they let kids slide at weigh ins (up to 2 or 3 lbs), it started late, had matches going on 2 mats while 3 or 4 would sit idle, they skipped bouts, and on top of that they actually had an hour lunch break with Yakov Smirnov and a juggler (which was actually entertaining)!!! It was pathetic then and they promised it would be better the next year (which we didn't attend), but the stories out of that were just as bad, and it sounds like this year they didn't have their crap together again! Not to beat a dead horse, but there is no evidence that next year will be any better, or any year following that for that matter!

Ive read several responses about Tri Lakes that took place last weekend.Well.......we had fun going to Branson and spending another weekend wrestling,I could probably say that we ve been to tougher, somewhat better ran,etc...but there were a lot of things that we got to enjoy also, super nice awards, great facilities, the folks who ran it were really nice and tried very hard to accomidate everyone.I havent been to any perfect tournaments including Iowa, each one is what it is.We ll probably go back,I hope more folks support this tournament,I also hope that TRI LAKES learned from their past and improve for the future. As far as I know Ks boys had 5 first,2 seconds, and a3rd. Oh yea,dad got to go to bass pro

I really wish I would have saw this post before hand. I saw a tournament that looked like it could be good for my little brother and a chance to get to hang out with him, since I live in Kansas City and he lives in Minnesota. He drove down from Minnesota (about 10 hours) to come wrestle in this tournament, and it was absolutely terribly run.
We showed up at 6:00AM for weigh-ins and the person that was supposed to be there didn't even show up. Someone finally showed up at about 7:00AM to weigh kids in.
After that, once wrestling finally started, half the kids didn't even show up, which means there were a lot of forfeits, and obviously the tournament people didn't look to see who weighed in and adjust the brackets accordingly.
On top of that, the mat workers had never seen a wrestling match in their life, had no clue how to work at a table, didn't know what the points were for, and didn't know how to read the brackets to get the right kids to the mat. I ended up having to help them half the time, because they had no clue what was going on.
The refs did really well in Folkstyle, but it looked like half of them had never refereed a Freestyle match before, as they had to keep asking the ref on the mat my brother was wrestling on for help on how to score certain moves.
Overall, I am fairly dissatisfied with this tournament, and feel sorry I had my brother drive down from Minnesota to wrestle a whole 4 matches (2 in Folkstyle and 2 in Freestyle), where only one of his matches was competitive.
