Get them a job hauling hay. Better yet, bucking hay. I know a few boys that are bucking 6,000 acres right now, I hear it is also great for the greco kids.

I'm a wrestler's parent; what are the best ways to improve skills over the off season? Freestyle and greco wrestling practices and tournaments during the spring and summer. Another good way is to participate in any practices either at the wrestler's school or surrounding schools. If none of that is available try to find a partner and a mat to work on weaknesses from the prior year. Strength training with weights preferably under a trainer's supervision or program. Some form of strength training is essential. Climbing a rope, push-ups and pullups are great ways to. Jump roping is a good way to improve coordination and help footwork. Running is great for conditioning and improving speed. Off season is a good time to review any old tapes of your matches to see what needs to improve. Also it would be a good time to watch any college wrestling tapes and matches that you or someone else might have. Add the above to the hauling and bucking of the hay and you would have a good off season preparation.

And do a few summer camps, too? Thanks for the suggestions.

And do a few summer camps, too? Thanks for the suggestions. Yes, the camps would be great too. However, I would rate the consistent spring and summer freestyle/greco practices and tournaments over camps, if I was picking one over the other. I also would rate high the consistency of every other day strength/weight training and supplementing that with jump roping and running on the following day. A lot of wrestlers participate either in cross country or football in the fall. Both of these sports are good cross training sports for wrestlers during the off season. Quite a few of our good Kansas wrestlers participate in track and field in the spring.

We had a hay hauling business when I was in High School. I'll just name a few of the wrestlers that hauled with us.

go to the pool and swim laps. try to go in the evening when most of the children are gone. great work out, plus it never hurts to hang out with the lifeguards.

thx! I don't know if this would be possible for you, but my recommendation is to find a good trainer who could help put you on the correct strength building program for yourself. Sometimes I think group workouts do not accomplish as much for an individual. Also you should plan a minimum of 3 good workouts a week. I don't think you will get the results you want with only two workouts in a week.
