Edgmon had #2 Barksdale beat. Gave up an escape with 1:01 of riding time for Brksdale and could have held the front headlock longer before granting the escape had he been paying more attention to the situation......he was facing the scoreboard when he did it. RT point sent the match to OT and Barksdale got a nice shot to win. We outwrestled him and deserved to win....just a mental mistake kept us from getting it done.
#3 Annon and #1 Dunning was a great match. Annon got the opening TD, followed by a Dunning reversal, followed by an Annon reversal, followed by a Dunning escape. Dunning got a 2nd period escape. 4-4 going in to the 3rd. Dunning is a beast on top and rode James out to get RT and turned James for a 2 point NF. Great match.....we just can't go underneath him next time.
Grater had an early double leg blast that set the tone and was in on a couple other shots that he couldn't finish. Jones and Grater are evenly matched.....1st takedown is huge when they wrestle. A nice win.
Same goes for the Gonzo and Sands match. Tyler found a nice shot early and had solid enough defense to make it the difference against a top notch kid.
Adams is a much better tournament team than dual team, but this was a nice win for the Tigers.
Will be a David vs. Goliath against Omaha, but if we show up we should be fine against Central Mo and Truman. We didn't show up the last time we went to Warrensburg, so hopefully they will do better this time.

Justin Glenn (FHSU) 3-1, FHSU 37-9 The Tigers had a tough day. They lost so many tight matches. Edgemon is wrestling more open. He won the match against Rein...the officials just ignored the last 10 seconds of action. It wouldn't have made a difference in the end result of the dual. UNO is ranked #1 for a reason. Hays battled right there with them in a lot of matches. Annon was controlling Morgan 3-0 and got caught with a headlock at the end of the match. Younkin battled with a very tough Dominguez. Grater wrestled probably the best wrestler in DII's (Two-time champ Menelly)to an 8-7 match. Lussenhop battled as well...Glen is a young heavy that I think could really turn into something. He hung in there with Lewis. I didn't see any of the Central Missouri dual but I heard there were some heartbreakers in the loss to Central Missouri as well. Edgemon SV loss, Grater got tossed by a European wrestler he was otherwise handling. Gonzales and Glenn both lost by one. If they had won any of those matches they would have won the dual. I think a really positive thing out of some of these recent matches is the guys appear to be opening up and wrestling more wide open...that's how you bring home the AA honors.

The #14 ranked Tigers knocked off #13 Augustana tonight. I think it was 35-7. They lost to #5 UNK after that. They won three matches against the Lopers...Edgemon, Annon, and Grater.

Who did they end of wrestling and beating? Wouldn't think Elliot would get beat by Edgemon this late into the year.

I don't know why I posted that. Tim Elliot wrestles for UCO not UNK. Darn acronyms.

How old is Lambotte, I thought he graduated from high school in 2003? This would make his sixth year removed, must have layed out.

I don't think Edgemon matches up the best with Elliott (even though he is at UCO)...but Edgemon is turning it up lately. He is very capable of bringing home AA honors for the Tigers. He should have beat the #2 kid (see above) he just pulled a bone head and cut him with a 1:01 disadvantage on riding time. He's right there.

At the M.I.A.A. duals FHSU didn't do so well. They lost 2 of the 3 duals... Matt Rein created an upset at 125.against Tommy Edgmon. Rein lost to Dooley who is under Edgmon at FHSU at the Brand open in Omaha. FHSU lost to UNO and Centra Iowa...They eat Truman State.

Five Tiger Wrestlers Qualify For Nationals
The Fort Hays State wrestling squad competed at the RMAC Championships/NCAA Division II West Regional on Saturday (Feb. 28) in Kearney, Neb. The Tigers finished fourth in the team standings, and had five individuals qualify for the national tournament. Those wrestlers include Danny Grater (157), Tommy Edgmon (125), Troy Lussenhop (165), James Annon (141) and Tyler Gonzales (184). Grater was the only Tiger to reach the championship match of his respective weight class. He lost to Noomis Jones in the first tiebreaker period of overtime by a 2-1 decision, placing second at 157 pounds. Grater defeated Phil Bullington of Chadron State, Travis Wokasch of Colorado Mines, and Kennen Funk of Colorado State-Pueblo to reach the finals. Grater will make his third appearance at the national tournament for FHSU.
Tommy Edgmon placed third at 125 pounds. After losing to Curtis Schurkamp of San Francisco State in the semifinals, he defeated Michael Abril of Nebraska-Kearney and Devlon Webb of Chadron State to win the consolation side of the bracket.
Troy Lussenhop was also a third place finisher for FHSU, coming at 165 pounds. After losing to Skye Wells of Western State in the semifinals, he defeated Cole Johnson of Mesa State and Jordan Larsen of Colorado Mines to win the consolation side.
James Annon needed a little bit of luck to qualify for nationals at 141 pounds. In the brackets, Annon finished fifth, but was able to take the fourth and final qualifying spot for nationals since he had defeated the fourth place finisher earlier in the tournament. He suffered two consecutive losses by 3-2 decisions, which put him in the fifth-place match. He defeated Daren Hockett of Western State earlier in the tournament, which gave him the nod. It will be Annons third appearance at nationals, as he was FHSUs only All-American last year with a fifth-place finish.
Tyler Gonzales finished fourth in the brackets at 184 pounds. He was challenged in a true fourth-place match by fifth-place finisher Ty Brown of Chadron State, but defeated Brown by a 9-6 decision to secure his spot at nationals. It will be the third appearance in the national tournament for Gonzales, after qualifying at 197 pounds the two previous years.
Western State won the event as a team, followed by Adams State and Nebraska-Kearney.
The NCAA Division II Championships are being held in Houston, Texas this year. The event is set for March 13-14.

A few side notes:
125: There was 4 returning All-Americans in this weight. Edgmon wrestled a great tournament, and is coming on at the right time. A 2-time AA is staying home.
141: Annon did not wrestle his best tournament, but a #1 seed from another regional better watch out.
157: Grater wrestled a solid tournament, but dropped a 2-1 2OT decision in the finals. He controlled the match, but couldn't find an offensive score.
165: I felt Lussenhop should have made the finals, but dropped a close one in the semis. He wrestled tough out the back door to take 3rd.
184: Tyler is a veteran now at the national tournament. Another weight where a #1 seed better watch out.
