It should be an interesting wide open race for the 5A 285 state championship this year with no returning 285 5A state placers but with some quality state qualifiers. I think all four of those that you have listed above should be ranked and have an excellent chance to place at State this year in 5A 285. I would also throw out sophomore Lorenzo Serna from Emporia as a strong possibility to be on the state podium this year. He was doing very well before Rodriguez of Emporia switched from 215 back to 285 at the end of the season. Rodriguez ended up second at State last year and Serna may have placed there if Rodriguez had stayed at 215. I also think sophomore Justin Walberg of Aquinas has a chance to place at State this year. Walberg was 16-2 as a 215 JV freshman last year.

I am not sure what weight Tyler Stouhal of Lansing is planning to wrestle this year. He was 215 last year. He would be a factor in 285 at State if he decides to wrestle 285 this year.
Howard Johnson of Great Bend placed 6th at 215 last year. I think he will probably wrestle 215 again this year but he also would be a factor in 285 if he decided to wrestle up a weight class this year.

Anything to the "rumor" that Jacob Cole will not be able to make weight 215 lbs and will be forced to settle at heavy weight and challenge their heavyweight?
At either weight, he will be a force to be reckoned with.

Jacob Cole will not be "forced to settle" for a position on the team. Young Mr. Cole, like wrestlers across the state, are working diligently to attain their desired weight classification within the fourteen (14) classifications defined by the National Federation of State High School Associations. In the fortunate event a high school has two athletes competing for the same weight classification, in most all cases, the wrestler who wins the challenge match(s) EARNS the varsity position.

Boy a little harsh arent we? This may come as a surprise to you but, from time to time, Richard does not play well with others. I'm sure what he meant was is the young man going 215 or HWT. I would never attempt to discern "what he meant", however I did comment on what he said. I try to live by the statement "say what you mean and mean what you say".

Serna took 2nd at Garden City yesterday losing to top all class ranked BJ Finney in overtime. I think Serna is now 27-3 for the year. My prediction in November of Serna as a strong possibility to place his this year is looking too conservative. He is becoming a strong contender for the 285 championship in 5A this year.

I wasn't able to wrestle this year, I leave for the marines basic training on February 9th.

Austin Edwards Great Bend is someone to throw in the mix and consider - Austin came away with a 5th place finish in a tournament with allot of good big wrestlers -
