I believe there was some bad calls at the tournament, but that is at every tournament. We had three state level officials there. One of our officials is not the best, but that is the breaks. If you want good officials to stay in the business then do not make a blanket statement on all the officials sucked Saturday.

If they are STate officials then they shouldn't be blowing calls..If you have ONE official that is blowing calls then I would think you would replace that official next year..HOw can you tell the kids "thats the breaks" ??

Its simple, "Life is not fair, never has been never will be." Send Coach Bloodgood your name and number and you can replace the "official blowing the calls" next year. It was the Osawatomie tournament for petes sakes.

And I don't officiate anymore cause my son wrestles in high school now..Thanks for the offer...

Good to see a perfect official. Its a pleasure to finally meet a guy that has officiated that has NEVER blown a call. I think Labette Community College is looking for 1 official for their regional Febuary 14. Most teams are off that weekend, so if you are interested in putting on a clinic for us guys that have made plenty of mistakes officiating as well as in other aspects of life, I think we can get you in.

Hey if you know the rules then why would any of you blow a call?? If your talking about a judgement call then we can all agree to disagree. I didn't say I NEVER blew a call..I have a few but when pointed out by the coaches I reversed it just like the rule books states..As far as judgement calls, ya NEVER blew a call!! Thanks for the offer, son is wrestling conference that day.. From the sounds of this forum, looks like you good ol kansas refs do need a clinic..

I suppose you're going to tell us that you were the best-looking ref out there, too! Officials like you give the rest of us a bad name. I've never met or seen you, but I'm glad you're out of the business. We don't need more "Gods" like you wearing the stripes. When your son is done, do us a favor and stay out please. The rest of us mere mortals will go on getting 98% of the calls correct and try to live with ourselves.

Please Big Mac. Real case scenario. Locked hands. There is no way you have never missed a locked hands call. You are pretty sure it happened, the coach says it happened, but you did not see it. With your rationale, you talk to the coach and change the call? This is not a judgement call, either you saw it or you didnt. I would venture to say that ALL officials have "blown" this call at least once in a career. If they have not, wait until the next tournament and you might. My point being, refs are human, they make mistakes. That is the great thing about wrestling sometimes is the human error. I do not ref alot, only when people I know are in a bind. I choose to coach and I know that I do not teach alot of the knuckle head things my athletes do, but they happen due to "human error". I will tell you that I would rather coach than ref any day of the week. These guys that ref have alot of improvement to do, even if they are the 4A State Ref of the year or no matter how many big tournaments they have refed. That is what makes us excell at our profession, always striving to get better. If that is not your goal, and you are as good as you are ever going to get, its probably best you spend your time in the stands watching your son.

Is something that is not seen by the official really a "blown call"? I consider a blown call something that was seen and ruled on incorrectly.

It happened, you missed it, you blew it in my opinion. Of course if you are perfect, and have never blown a call, you may choose the other option. Get in position to make every call and you wont blow any calls. Like I said, human error is involved.

Jamesrenfro- Wow, you hit the nail on the head..
Get in position to make every call and you wont blow any calls.
(You can't make a call you don't see)
Great post!!!
Know the rules Position is Key Never determine the outcome of the match..Let the wrestlers do that..

My point is that you are living in a fantasy world. No ref at any level is in position 100% of the time over a 25 year career. It makes me mad just like the next coach, but the last thing I would do is give my guy an excuse as to why he got beat. That one call in his mind was not the difference in the match. It was the other 5, 6, 7 opportunities that we missed that caused the loss. Score as many points as possible during the match and take it out of the hands of the ref.
"You can't make a call you don't see"-
"AND I didn't blow ANY calls in the above events.."

Like they say score when you can and as often as you can - So many times some keep the match so close that it comes back and bites them in the budd - And some always look for a excuse on why they didn't win the match. We all have seen blown or bad calls, bad coaching and even bad parenting. After helping coach kids Football and some wrestling over the years, my hat goes off to anyone who gives their time at what ever level or capacity it may be to help out so that we all can enjoy sports, no matter what the game might be.
A man would do nothing if he waited until he could do it so well that no one could find fault.
