THIS IS THE COACH FROM ABILENE,
He didn't beat Eric Johnson, Eric injury defaulted to him becuase he tore something in his knee in his match with Thomas Rhodes. In fact I don't think very highly of Herrman at all he is a cheap, wrestler who does nothing but stall the entire match. He never took one shot in all three of his matches becuase I watched them all. He should have never of been in the finals in the first place. Johnson beat him the week before at District and Herrrman didn't earn the state title.
THIS IS THE SECOND CONVERSATION
Actually I do know becuase I am a coach and I was standing match side watching the match and I caoched Ross in his match against Herrman and the kid just plained stalled, hands down, I have been in wrestling for a long time and I know stalling when I see it and this kid did nothing but stall. Johnson would have handled him in the finals had he not gotten hurt. And no he did not shoot becuase like I said I watched everyone of his matches. If he wasn;t stalling then why did two of his matches go into Double OT? Becuase he stalled through the first period of both matches then he stalled through the first OT of both matches. I have no respect for wrestlers like this and it is unforntunate that Eric got hurt becuase I would have enjoyed watching him tear Herrman up again.
GREAT COACH HUH!

Yes I made those comments, and I stand by then 100%. Integrity? do you honestly know what that means? Consider the situation in which I responded with these comments. Someone made the comment that Ryan Herrman was this great wrestler and he won state and on and on. I simply said that He won it by cheating and stalling, and he did. It is wrestlers like this that make people want to go to basketball games and say things lie "Wrestling is boring" "All they do is dance around" There is no place for stalling in wrestling and I am all for referees calling is more and more often in the future. Skabeenie & Wrestling 4 fun if I had no Integrity I would not have put my name on my posts which I see you have not done, I challenge you to show your real names if you are going to come on here and bash me becuase of my opinions which were shared by several other coaches not even from my same club on the same kid. SO go ahead and tell me your real names, or at least have the "integrity" to say it to me in person instead of hiding, I don't want confrontation, I just don't want people to come on here and praise athletes when they do not earn it.

While I am not a big fan of stalling, I guess you have to give the kid a certain amount of credit if he was able to pull it off and win a state championship. I get irritated, too, when one of our wrestlers goes up against a stalling opponent. The refs need to be more aggressive about making these kids wrestle. Let us remember one thing, though. Most of the college coaches in D1 criticized Dan Gable because they thought his wrestlers stalled too much. You can't really argue with the success he had.

What is stalling? When two wrestlers are tied up and one drives the other off the mat, who is stalling? The one backing up, or the one intentionally shoving the other wrestler off the mat? When one wrestler is belly down and his opponents shoulder is in the middle of his back, is the bottom man stalling if he can't get up but the top man is off to the side (not riding the hips)? Is the top man stalling if every time he tries to ride to the side the bottom man nearly escapes, so he has to go back to riding parallel and controlling the bottom mans arms? The point I'm trying to make is it is a very fine line between stalling and attempting to maintain control. The rules state that an effort should be made by both wrestlers to improve their position. If both wrestlers are fairly even in ability and experience, sometimes trying to improve your position will result in loss of advantage. A wrestler should be penalized for stalling, but he shouldn't be expected to make a ill advised move just for the sake of not being called for stalling.

Well Nigel. He Won!!! And that is all that counts he beat Ross Taplin. Who cares. We all know that he would have not won in the finals. But there was no need in you puttin that kid down like that. He has to be a good wrestler if he beat him. Personally I think that Taplin is a stauller no afence to him or anything he is cool an all. but he doesn't really do anything but slam on the head. Besides Ross would beat that kid 9 out of 10 times anyway and that was that kids 1 time and it happend to come in the state tournament. I am sure Ross will be out looking to beat him in freestyle if that kid wrestles it.

Hey Nigel, we are talking about kids here. No use sour graping over a loss. Matches are matches and some of them don't go the way you want them but those kids out there no matter what their names are or where they are from do the best they can. I have seen a lot of my kids loose a lot and win a lot of controversial matches and I didn't always like the losses but things happen. If you are going to coach you have to have as much interest in the other kid as you do in yours, thats what we all are supposed to be doing on the corners of the mat, helping kids. It demeans you to openly criticize the integrity of a young kid because he beat one of your kids, especially publicly as this forum is. Sometimes it is better to step back and take a deep breath and remember what the point of it all is. Tough enough to be a kid these days without taking shots from people in print.
