Lots of talk about Kansas Grand Match. Here is a quick format.

1. Wrestlers: The four weight class winners from each current state tournament (that would be 16 wrestlers).

2. No weigh ins. If you won at yor state you are entered.

3. Somewhere in the center of the state. Maybe Bramblage Col at KS State if you can get three or 4 mats down.

4. Do a jumbled ABCD seeding similiar to the State Tourney. But no set 1 vs 4 or 2 vs 3 first round. Mix them up randomly so that ther are some 1 vs 2, 2 vs 4, 1 vs 3 etc. Come as you are and wrestle who you get.

5. Make it a one day tournament. To cut some time perhaps no 1st( or 2nd round) backside. Opening round losers go home early. Also, no breaks, keep it rolling. Wrestle till it is over.

No weigh ins, no seeding meetings, no arguements. Come as you are. Thats how they do it at the KCK CC Metro classic. So what if the wrestlers put on a few pounds---its all relative. Again, come as your. I think most wrestlers who have the chance to wrestle a Grand Championship will do one more week of training and weight management. They are all proud and no one wants to be embarassed.

Coach. There is no perfect system. What I see on this site is a lots of talk but not a lot of action. Too many ifs, ands , or buts. Just get the kids on the mats. If a weighin is absolutely necessary, then have one.

They do have weighins at the KCC classic they give a 7 pound allowance and many of the smaller kids drop a weight.

One and Done. We want a overall champ right?
What does it matter who finished 3rd?
Manhattan the center of the state? More like Hutchinson.

Revolution. Aassume from your wording of no 3rds you are saying no consolations, zero, zilch, nada? Might, but don't think you can sell that. Too much trouble and costs for only 15 matches (8-4-2-1). Probably never get a sponsor.

I think it would be a good idea, but you have to have the same format as a regular tour. Have it a few weeks after state, so the kids will not put on a few pounds. plus, if you are not 321A, or 4A you are going to get your feelings hurt!

You could do the old pull through style. You get beat first round your guy has to win next to pull you through. Eliminates first round backside. No one should have to travel for one match but if your guy gets beat next round it does save one round. They used to do it at in all 16 brackets including regionals and state.

I just don't know what he was thinking, they use to have grand state before, and it meant a lot even to get third, or fourth, there should be no fith or sixth i would say, but man if we did it his way, why don't we just go in the back yard and do it old school. No refs, score, time or anything mister hard core! I would have gotten to go four times, but don't think I would have showed up for a single elimination tour. Not worth my time at the end of a hard season.
