Is their a clan of Pyle wrestlers at Sabetha. In 1997 at a 4A regional at Maryville (I think) a Pyle beat my son. I think that year there were either Pyle twins, or just two Pyle brothers. This Jason Pyle is to old tom either one of those Pyles. A younger brother or maybe a cousin??

Matt Pyle is Jason's older brother.
Matt Pyle wrestled for Sabetha High School and won two state championships, in 2000 at 135 lbs. in the 4A class and 2001 at 135 lbs. in the 3-2-1A class.
Matt was a two time NCAA Division III Champion and four time All-American wrestling for Luther from 2004-2007.
Matt's career NCAA Division III placement: 2004 - 149 lbs. - Third 2005 - 149 lbs. - First 2006 - 149 lbs. - Fifth 2007 - 149 lbs. - First
Matt completed his career with a win/loss record of 108-26 and was named Outstanding Wrestler at the 2007 NCAA Division III Tournament.
Matt currently is an assistant coach at Luther College.

Richard, I think the Pyle he is actually talking about is Adam Pyle, Adam is the oldest and graduated in 1999. Adam is a teacher here in Sabetha and is my assisstant coach. His wife is currently pregnant with another Pyle boy! He was also a very successful wrestler but never placed at State himself(neither did I), but he is a hell of a coach!
There is a story about Matt though in the Junction tourney as a freshman beating a Sr. state placer from Junction I beleive. Laster always talks about never underestimating people when he refers to this match.
There are a total of five Pyle children, 2 girls and 3 boys, all of the same Sabetha clan(actually Morrill). On a side note, Allyn Plattner(also wrestling at Luther and former KS state placer from Sabetha) is related to the Pyle family and is first cousin to all of them. Very nice wrestling families all around!

I Thought sure the big A had finally grabbed me. Could not reconcile the years my son wrestled with the Pyle Info--which came after my sons graduation. The 1997 Pyle wrestler was very very good. My son, who was not too bad himself, was tied in knots.
A few years back, 2-3-4-5, a Sabetha kid wrestled in the Metro Classic. I think he got beat by the MO kid in a very good match. Do not think he was a Pyle.
Congrats to all the wrestlers up there.
Before we went to 5A, our HS wrestled a lot of those north tier Kansas schools. Lots of great wrestlers up there from Hiawatha west through sabetha and Concordia. Did not see many of the schools from further west--they were mostly 321A.

Actually that was Jason Pyle who graduated in 2007. He was losing in the Metro but came back to win that match at the Metro. That kid was very tough on his feet an it was a good match.

Nice post coach, it is nice to hear about wrestlers who have moved up to the college ranks. I hope he has continued success, and I hope your program continues to grow and produce more wrestlers like him.

Coach Brown Plattner was also a 2009 NCAA Division III national qualifier. Plattner went 1-2 in the 285 lb. classification.

I would imagine the Pyle brothers gained some of their work ethic and character from their father. I had the opportunity to work on a job site that Mr. Pyle was the electrician on. I am sure they were taught the value of work and character by the example he set.

Jeff is correct that Gary Pyle is a hard working man and has taught all of his children the value of working hard. Thank you John for the kind words, your team was quite impressive at state I might add. And Richard I must have missed adding that Allyn was also a National Qualifier, he also learned the value of working hard towards a goal from his own father, Randy Plattner.
Another person that was instrumental in all 4(3 Pyle's an Allyn) boys success was State Representative Steve Lukert, all 4 worked on his hay farm every summer. There is alot to be said about farm boys right there, throwin hay will make you stronger than you will believe! Guess where my boys are gonna work when they are old enough?

Excellent posts!!! Good to hear about the accolades of such good wrestlers. It does appear it runs in the family.
