WOW!!! They placed all the way to 8th. Technically a wrestler could get beat out of this double elimination tournament TWICE!!!! I hope the "P" club gave out ribbons to everyone that entered the tournament, that would only be fair. When are tournaments, including STATE, going to stop coddling kids. Place the top 4, all other places do not matter.

I think you are getting a little carried away with the "P" club thing.

I think you are getting a little carried away with the "P" club thing. Why are the same tournaments: Derby, Newton, STATE, to name a few, that only placed the top 4 back in the 90's, now placing the top 6 and the top 8? The tournaments have not gotten that much bigger. It is because society as a whole has joined the "P" club. Its embarrassing to make a kid have to lose 4 matches in a tournament if you ask me. Two and out.

Its embarrassing to make a kid have to lose 4 matches in a tournament if you ask me. Two and out. At tne Newton TOC, in a bracket of 32, if a wrestler loses twice prior to the Consolation Quarterfinals, they are eliminated. If a wrestler suffers his second loss during the Consolation Quarterfinals, they advance to the 7th place match, where one wrestler will suffer their THIRD loss of the tournament. If a wrestler suffers his second loss during the Consolation Semifinals, they advance to the 5th place match, where one wrestler will suffer their THIRD loss of the tournament.

WOW Garden City is back! They pulled away. I thought that after the first day they were totally out of it. Sleeper! I am excited to see how this all shakes out at the Garden City Invite in a couple of weeks.

Touche' Richard, I stand corrected on the 4 losses. I agree with your point, however the Newton TOC is a highly competitive tournament and developing a teams (individual wrestler) skill level is of paramount importance to the coach and in order to accomplish this goal, mat time is essential. As you well know, your child already has determined which of his awards are more meaningful to him than others, and to a highly skilled wrestler who has suffered an unexpected loss during the tournament, a third, fourth, fifth, etc., award is meaningless. To an unexperienced wrestler, a third, fourth, fifth place finish (and award) MAY be the confidence boost this wrestler needs to help the wrestler advance to the next level.

I don't have to like it or agree with it, but at least you have helped me wrap my head around it. Good points.

We could discuss it at our next club meeting. The problem is knowing who to enlighten. Seems they forgot to post their name.

I hope that in the future the tournament director would make one change. Dont have all the coaches submit their OW before the last match is over. This is unfair to the last few matches as in my oppinion could have been awarded the OW. 103,112, 119 all were just as deseving as the winner. a Good example, 112 winner had 1 pin 2 tech falls and a majot dec over a quality and high ranked wrestler. Just my opinion!
