The 5A 119 bracket is ridiculously lopsided. The bottom half contains Blaine Smith (31-3), Aaron Seybold (27-3), Caleb Seaton (40-2) and Tyler Dryden (39-4).
That's jacked up.
In fairness Watters beat two of those wrestlers at Regionals.
Point well taken.
No surprise as his only losses last year were to Windham and Pursel, maybe one kid from Okla, right? Watters is legit.
Probably would be a little "fairer" though if say Seaton was on his side at state. Seybold probably should have to go thru Smith because he lost at regionals. Watters should probably have to go thru at least one of those kids though. But hey, it is what it is and he is where he is because he did his part and won regionals.
All are studs and still will be after state.
The problem is tied to what I have talked about under other topics and that is the regionals are pooly aligned which creates situations where state qualifiers don't go to state and kids with losing records do. And then you get to listen to uneducated people say things like "6A and 5A are weaker because the have more losing records" or "you can see that its harder to go to state in 3A and 4A". Who won that forth region, thats the problem.
The draws at state are sometimes bad but they will be until they seed state but that would be too much work. If they would seed the teams for regionals and seperate the teams alot of these problems would not occur. Like send Pittsburgh to Kansas City and not Wichita. That would help but, they won't. They are regionals I guess and some regionals are tougher than others for sure.
