This is my first year on the High School wrestling forum. I really enjoy the comments and the "characters" who post to the forum in support of Kansas wrestling and our boys.

I thought this might be a fun thread.

Every year there are some surprise champions. Every year there is that underdog kid or two who wins it all. His record wasn't the best, his ranking wasn't the best, but he somehow pulls it off and stands atop the podium.

Or maybe there are 4, 5, 6 kids that could win it. “It’s a toss-up”. Pick your favorite among these to emerge unscathed!

So in the spirit of either the underdog winning it against the odds and or in the spirit of a champion left standing among several other great warriors, who will pull off the big one this weekend and create a memory for himself and his family that will last a lifetime!

Take your own advice.

I shall be the first to respond to my own post!

I don't know enough yet about Kansas wrestling to make any truly "bold" underdog predictions. But in the category of "Champion among the Warriors", here are two (and I must admit, two sentimental favorites):

6A State 112 combatants:

Dalton Miller (Sr) 34-0 (hard to pick against this stud)
Isaac Ruiz (Sr) 32-4
Zach Dremel (So) 30-4
Hunter Haralson (Fr) 31-9 -- CHAMPION (maybe a bit of an underdog but the Freshman wins it!)

5A State 112 combatants:

Tommy Williams (So) 35-6
Trevor Boyer (Sr) 33-3
Bo Pursel (So) 31-5 -- CHAMPION (wow!! would love to watch this one!)
Lukas Maki (Fr) 37-4
Tim Prescott (So) 28-5
Aspen Kmiec (Jr) 27-4

Take your own advice.

Good thread Sprat.

You took the odds on favorite at 5A/112!

I'm going to reach a little further.

4A/152:

Cade Blair - 41-0
Sam Son - 36-3
Colten Picking 36-0 - CHAMPION - The dream season continues!
Josh Rodriguez - 28-2
Drake Lovvern - 35-3

Guilty as charged. But what do I know about the odds? It is why I don't take on your risks and try to rank anyone! smile

In my defense and as supreme owner of the thread :), I created my "disclaimer" category "Champion Among Warriors". Purcel might be the odds on but that weight class is stacked. If you and I weren't headed to Wichita, I would love to see that 5A bracket in action! Or...given the 4A 152 battle you have just set up, maybe we go there. Or 321A... Hey, bring all the State tournaments together into the same venue. Sprint Center baby!

Take your own advice.

I think 5A is in Wichita too? You will get your wish to see that 5A 112 bracket!

Nice post chief i think he can do it too.

I also think Morgan from 4a Abilene Fr 103 has a good shot at winning it.

4a race will be very close I think Abilene and Clay Center will both have 3 or 4 champs it is going to come down to the Back side Placers to determine a team champ

I'm picking B J Finney as the upset winner of 4A 285.

I'll also take Danny Floyd to upset the field in 321A 140 pounds and Daniel Deshazer at 125 6a.

jammer, what is your system? can i go on-line and buy a cd or something about how you go out on a limb and pick these unbelievable underdogs. i bet you kill in vegas, baby. what do you think of this cokeley kid, can he do it? what about these two valley center seniors, do you think they can pull it off? i just need the advice of someone as skilled as you, before i feel comfortable making these picks. please help. i'm in deep, to some really bad people, i just have to get these right.

I got Soph. Justin McPhail 35-5 of Liberal winning it. There's a "dark horse" for you.

I got Schmidtberger pulling the upset in semi's and taking a win in the finals at 130 in 4A. Wouldn't say that is a dark horse but he has a tough road and I'm sure most have their $$ on Moeder.

I'm going to have to agree with you although I am pulling for Biddle! Also going to put my money on McMichael over Floyd at 140 lbs!
