Isaac Ruiz placing 4th shouldn't be an upset really. Zack Dremel the guy that beat him for 3rd beat him earlier on in the season. And Trip Hiller being the state champ is not an upset!!!! lol The kid is tough. I guess I am a little biased though haha. I know the kid he beat for 1st beat him earlier in the season but that was a close match too.

It would have been a defensive pin for Tre'in the 1st period but the ref did not call it. It started out to be a defensive pin in the 3rd, but Tre caught Norris's leg, elevated it then turned into him, Norris scrambled to get off his back and Tre caught him. So it really was not a defensive pin. reguardless what a way to end your season, taking nothing a way from Dane Norris he is still a stud.

Please note, I do agree that Jonathan Blackwell is a good wrestler, but I do mot consider his match with Miles johns an "upset". If some of you did not know; Miles Johns 130lb 5A 3rd rank wrestler experienced a significant hip injury in the championship match against Logan Arnold at 5A regionals in Newton. At one point that evening in the Newton ER, we were discussing possible surgery to his hip. Miles Johns attempted to compete at the 5A state wrestling tournament and was unsuccessful, which is no "surprise" due to the extreme amount of pain he was experiencing "on and off" the mat. I'm not making excuses for my son, he is a very tough kid and a great wrestler and we are VERY PROUD of him; just keep in mind that was not Miles Johns-100% on that mat that day, and we look forward to getting the opportunity to compete with Jonathan and the rest of the of the top 5A wrestlers next year.

anytime someone who isn't ranked beat a ranked opponent it's an upset, regardless of the circumstances. tough break on the injury, but it's not fair to put asterisk by the win. blackwell did have an upset with carado, it happened in the last seconds, on a move some would consider a fluke. a win is a win, and maybe the rankers had it wrong, but an unranked kid going through the bracket like he did deserves recognition. i hope miles recovers quickly, and is back on track soon, tough break, i always hate to hear when a kid gets hurt.

Blackwell is a very tough kid, who progressed significantly throughout the season. He worked extremely hard all year, and did not miss one workout. He flew a little under the radar this year, partly because I am the 5A ranker (I have a hard time ranking my own guys), and he took some losses early in the season.
It was very clear that Miles Johns was nowhere near 100%. It took a great amount of courage to step on the mat.
I would not consider a "Peterson" to be a fluke move. Some call it a "Lampe". We had a game plan going into the Corado match, and Jonathan executed well.
Jonathan is not an East Kansas kid, he has come up through the Bonner Springs system, and had very quality coaching. I'm not taking anything away from the EK Club, but want to give credit where credit is due.

Please note I am in no way discrediting Jonathan, he was a good wrestler who did very well and I do not doubt that he worked very hard to get to that point, so did Miles.I meant no disrespect with the "upset" comment, and as I stated in my note: we look forward to being able to meet Jonanthan again; when my son is healthy and 100%. It is tough to meet a good wrestler like Jonanthan and not be able to wrestle to your full potential due to an injury, because you always want to see how you can compete with a fellow wrestler, who is formidable opponent and can provide you with a good match.

one of our guys won his first match and went 1-2. the one kid he did beat the very first round came out and got 3rd. heartbreaker to see the one guy you beat place while left with nothing.

Maybe what you think isnt what really happens. Everytime you step on the mat anything could happen. Records and regoinals are different. Nobody knows anything till state is over.

Saying Trip was an underdog is a true fact maybe not to him or his family but there is no reason to get all up set saying his state title not to many people predicted iam sure he is a great young man but your argument makes no sence was he number one in the rankins before state? was he number one after state yes. He defeated a 3 time finalist so yes he was an underdog so get off the high horse your sitting on and except the fact....
