Nebraska-Kearney will be leaving the RMAC and joining the MIAA. I'm not sure how this affects wrestling. The MIAA will now have four teams with wrestling? I've heard rumors in the past about other schools possibly joining the MIAA and changing things up for wrestling. Does anyone have any more info?

The Kansas City Star today says that Lindenwood (moving from NIAA to DII) has also been invited to join the MIAA.

Maybe we will see FHSU join the MIAA someday since they do wrestle in the MIAA Duals, but are actually in the RMAC.

I don't think that the MIAA sponsors wrestling as a conference sport. FHSU is in the MIAA for all other sports except wrestling. They are in the RMAC because that is the closest conference that has wrestling.

I don't understand that because UNO, Truman, UCM & now UNK are all in the MIAA & they all have wrestling.

Look at the list of sports. The schools have wrestling but it is not sponsored by the conference. I know, it seems kind of odd but that is how it is.

MIAA Conference

According to the Lindenwood press release the MIAA will be excepting 4 new schools(Lindenwood, Nebraska-Kearney, the University of Central Oklahoma, and Northeastern State University (Okla.) to the league. This would give them 7 schools(I believe?) with wrestling. I would guess then, that at that time, FHSU would wrestle in the MIAA along with the other member schools. Seems logical that the league would sponsor a 7 team wrestling league, but who knows?. Here is the full press release from Lindenwood.

Lindenwood University announced today that its Athletics Department has accepted an invitation to join the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA). The MIAA extended an invitation to Lindenwood and the University of Nebraska-Kearney on Friday afternoon.

Lindenwood will join the MIAA for the 2012-13 academic year along with Nebraska-Kearney, the University of Central Oklahoma, and Northeastern State University (Okla.). The addition of those four schools will make the MIAA a 16-team conference made up of schools from Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, and Oklahoma. Current members of the conference are: University of Central Missouri, Emporia State University (Kan.), Fort Hays State University (Kan.), Lincoln University (Mo.), Missouri Southern State University, Missouri Western State University, University of Nebraska-Omaha, Northwest Missouri State University, Pittsburg State University (Kan.), Southwest Baptist University (Mo.), Truman State University (Mo.), and Washburn University (Kan.).

The MIAA currently sponsors conference championships in 17 sports. On the men’s side, championships are awarded in baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, tennis, indoor track and field, and outdoor track and field. Women’s championship are in the sports of basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, indoor track and field, outdoor track and field, and volleyball.

Lindenwood was accepted into NCAA Division II candidacy over the summer. The athletics department is expected to enter into a provisional year in the NCAA in 2012-13, and then become a full member during the 2013-14 school year. Lindenwood will have 26 sports at the NCAA level and will compete in all 17 sports that the MIAA currently sponsors.

This just became the super conference of DII Wrestling! UNO, UNK, UCO, and Lindenwood have all won National Championships in recent years! Lindenwood is making the transition from NAIA but they will be a force at the DII level too. I understand that the regions will be adjusted and they will all be battling in the same region now too (in 2012?). Anyone who escapes this region is likely to All-American at Nationals. WOW!

A couple people responded on the Pittsburg Morning Sun to add wrestling at PSU. New AD at Pitt this year, never know, might be receptive to trying to add new sports as the MIAA grows.
