I am the coach for the Tonganoxie Team and the boys name is Dylan Yates. He is a 1st year wrestler and that was his first tournament. (I have known the family for many years and he has not wrestled somewhere else or whatever else was indicated at Bonner). He is extremely aggressive, knows how to shoot (tackle), run a half with an ankle (because he does not know how to break anyone down), and he can stand up and get away on bottom. I am the the one that you and your wife (I assume) told that this boy is not a novice kid - he should be open.
Let me state a couple of thoughts:
1. If he wins two more novice tournaments our club mandates he move up. Keep in mind he is eligible by rule for his first two years, but I mandate that they move up if they win 3 novice tournaments.
2. He will be wrestling in both Tonganoxie and Gardner.
3. He gets pounded by our open wrestlers that can simply sprawl and crossface.
He is not an open wrestler. although, he has the ability to be one very shortly, and he listens and has interested parents so I look for him to be competing open by February, but just because he is an aggressive kid that has grasp three moves does not mean he is open.
I am not trying to offend you but I was completely caught off gaurd by your comments. I thought they were from emotion so I let them go. But now it appears they are coming up again. He took his half out everytime he turned your boy over and held him on his back by pushing on his shoulders. Not quite the pinning technique of an open wrestler. Again I am not trying to be mean but I am offended that because Dylan beat your kid that you are looking to single him out. All my kids can do the same 3 moves at this point in the season. He and a couple others simply have the aggression and the ability to carry them out. He will be open soon enough.

I AM NOT COMING BACK WITH ANY COMMENTS!!!!!! I SIMPLY JUST WANTED TO KNOW HIS NAME. MY SON IS A FIRST YEAR WRESTLER AND IS ACTUALLY WRESTLING UP A WEIGHT CLASS (53). WE JUST WANTED TO KNOW WHO HE WAS WHEN HIS NAME POPPED UP ON OUR SON'S BRACKET. OUR SON JUST WANTS TO KNOW WHAT HE IS UP AGAINST WHEN HE GETS TO A TOURNAMENT SO HE CAN PREPARE AND GET HIS BIG BROTHER TO HELP DECIDE WHICH TECHNIQUES TO USE. I WAS NOT TRYING TO OFFEND ANY OF YOU AT THE TOURNAMENT NOR HERE!!!!!! I AM NOT SINGLING HIM OUT!!!! I HAVE GROWN UP WITH WRESTLING BEING THAT MY DAD HAS BEEN A HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING COACH FOR 30+ YEARS. IT JUST SEEMS THAT HE WAS A LITTLE MORE ADVANCED THAN THE NORMAL NOVICE WRESTLER. MY SON IS ALSO VERY AGGRESSIVE, YOU SHOULD HAVE NOTICED THAT IF YOU GOT TO SEE HIM WRESTLE HIS MATCHES BEFORE DYLAN. IF YOU ARE TAKING ME ASKING FOR HIS NAME PERSONALLY THEN I CAN'T CHANGE HOW YOU FEEL. IT SHOULD BE A COMPLIMENT. I KNOW FIRST YEAR KIDS CAN BE GOOD, I HAVE A 12 YEAR OLD THAT STARTED WRESTLING LAST YEAR AND WENT TO STATE (SECONDS AWAY FROM PLACING)
NO BAD FEELINGS HERE, JUST ASKING FOR A NAME!!
By the way, this is the wife, my husband is just learning about wrestling.

These last entries is exactly why clubs should control who enters and who does not enter novice tournaments. I do not agree with your policy that if a kid wins three tourneys, they should move up to open. The compitition is different in each tournament. A child should be allowed to wrestle novice his or her first year, then their second year they should be evaluated on whether they should move up or not. Some kids are ready, some are not. Until clubs start enforcing the novice tournament rule, we will have misunderstandings, arguments, and discouraged kids no matter what. Every year it is the same. At the Burlington novice there was a kid participating that was wearing a Fort Scott Tournament t-shirt with a 1st place emblem on it. The adults have to become adults and put a stop to all of this.
