College: ISU self reports NCAA violations

Iowa State University announced on Tuesday it has entered into a summary disposition process with NCAA because of improper phone calls and text messages made from 2008 to 2011.
ISU declined to name the coaches or sports that were involved in a press release and in a phone call made to ISU spokesman Tom Kroeschell. The press release only adding that the coaches and sports in question served self-imposed sanctions during the 2011-12 academic year, which included a reduction of coaches on the road recruiting and the number of calls a coach could place in a four-month time period. ISU self reported the violations in November 2011.
“Our institution is fully committed to strict compliance with all rules and regulations of the NCAA”, said ISU athletic director Jamie Pollard in a statement. “We have worked hard to maintain a culture of integrity by hiring quality staff and reinforcing moral and ethical conduct at all times.”
ISU athletic spokesman Tom Kroeschell declined comment to comment on the number of illegal text messages sent. In the press release, ISU said it wouldn’t comment further until the case is resolved.
ISU reviewed the phone records of every coach in the athletic department during the three-year period and found 55 impermissible calls were made by non-coaching staff members and 24 were made by coaches at impermissible times. The press release also stated that 1,405 phone calls were a coach didn’t connect with a recruit weren’t properly documented.
The athletic department has recommended to the NCAA that ISU be put on two years of probation.

So this would affect the all sports? Surely they can establish whether what sports were and were not responsible and punish accordingly.

Well hopefully nothing comes of it as far as the wrestling program goes. It seems it took Coach Jackson a few years, but the showed some real life in Des Moines, and if I'm not mistaken, they bring all of their points back next year.
