I would like to point out that one Sub-District knows their job isn't finished until the results are communicated to this web page. I think District 3 West Sub-District people need to offer a course in Wrestling Tournament Management 101 for the other Districts that don't seem to know how to FINISH the job. It is a shame that one Sub-District could have their results up on the page on Sunday Morning and none of the others could manage to do the same. I think this trend has been going on for several years and if District 3 West can do the job right; it is negligent for the others to fail at their responsible to the kids year after year. I guess District 3 West people and all the High School Regional sites and the High School State people think the kids are important enough to provide timely cummunication of the results. It would be nice if the other Kansas Kids Sub-District would honor the kids by finishing thier jobs in a timely manner.

Marvin, I am going to disagree with you just a little on this one. I am still a big fan of both you and your son though. He might be the very best Kids wrestler in Kansas at any age or weight and you are a very good wrestling parent. Here is my thoughts on this though.

I get anxious just like the rest of us for these results. What I tell myself when I start getting too anxious is that I know they are going to be mostly posted in a few days and probably 100% before districts. Like all of us I really appreciate the volunteer efforts to get the job done for all the tournaments that post results during the year. The other thing I follow a lot is the Missouri side due to our wrestling them a lot in the Metro area. Believe me we have a lot to be thankful for in comparison to Missouri reporting. They do not list their results in a central location for results (only State results are listed on their central location for results). The only way to get Missouri results on their USA site is on their topic page when people like ourselves list them independently.

People in Kansas are also responding to some topics requesting updates from all Subs on specific age and weight groups that they are interested in. In my son's age and weight I am only missing two Subs at this moment due to this type of posting and the three Subs that have already posted.

Dear Marvin:

I agree we should do a better job of posting the results.

I agreed to post District II results as in years past, our particular District has had problems in this area, and I was the number one (1) vocal critic. I put up so I would shut up. I did not have a child participating in the tournament, so my participation is a true volunteer effort.

Please understand I am not being critical of you, however it appears to me you have never compiled the results, or attempted to discern anothers hand writing to determine exactly what the spelling of a wrestlers name is on the entry form provided by USAW Kansas. The entry forms require manually writing the qualifiers name onto the forms.

I began compiling the District II North results, which I did not receive until 06:30 P.M., at approximately 07:00 P.M. and finished at approximately 09:00 P.M.; I began the South results at approximately 02:30 A.M. this morning and completed the South at 05:00 A.M.

At any given time, I had five (5) open windows to the Ark City, Bulldog, Derby, Rose Hill, and SEK Tournament results page to assist me to decipher a particular wrestler's correct spelling of their name, and sometimes even the correct club. I have a new crink in my neck from tilting my head in the same direction as the handwriting (laugh). It is very easy to complain, however until you have actually performed the duty, you do not know how much time is involved.

I readily admit I could have completed the process in much less time, however I believe it to be important to have the wrestler's name spelled correctly, as I am sure, with your last name, you can appreciate.

Until all tournaments are automated, this process will remain time consuming, cumbersome, and difficult to find volunteers to perform the duty.

As a group, we should initiate discussion with the Corporate Board and the Executive Council of USAWA Wrestling Kansas to purchase the necessary software, to be owned by USAWA Wrestling Kansas and distributed to each District, and place a condition on the club hosting the Sub-district and the District Tournament to use the software.

In order to receive the type of instant results many of us desire, this appears to me to be the answer.

I appreciate the volunteer efforts of everyone and I understand the potential time consuming work. My point is that at the 4A regionals in Abilene the results were being entered in the computer as it happened. Obviously, District 3 West at Smokey Valley has implemented the organizational procedures and tournament management technique to accomplish the entire tournament procedure better than anyone else. Maybe they can share their procedures with the other Districts. They did as very good job.

That is a good idea. I think any organization can improve by learning from other successful organizations. If District 3 West is using a method that can be easily utilized by the other districts then it would benefit everyone to use it too. If they are using a computer onsite to update results as they happen that would certainly be the fastest method. Every subdistrict would have to still have the resources to have the computer on site and on site volunteers. It definitely is an idea worth exploring. It might not be that difficult for the other subdistricts to switch to Subdistrict 3 West's method of posting. They have been doing a great job. I think the other Subs do a good job too though. Does anyone know why District 1 North and South post together?

Districts III's tournament at Smoky Valley was extremely smooth and I'm used to high school tournaments without all the little headaches running around. I wrestled all the way to the end and still got out around 2 I believe. Nice job D 3..REPRESENT.
