Sportsfan, can u or anyone for that matter tell me what the reasonings are behind the high-school coaches staying with their team and training during off seasons is? And kids training with high-school team? I'm a reasonable man just can't see the problem. I can give you one reason. Because your school district and mine do not want to have to double their coach's supplemental salary in order to provide that coaching thru the summer. After all, our school districts are the ones who make up KSHSAA and in effect make those rules.

Why cant we get those kind of rules in Kansas? Not entirely sure of your scenario you describe, but we do have those kind of rules in Kansas. Our high schoolers attend two team camps a summer with their coaches and then have open room every Sunday.

BS there isn't a coach I know that does it for the money. Or if glad that rule is in play. Remove the rule give coaches and wrestlers the option and opportunity. I would only help Kansas wrestling grow

This wasnt a camp it was just a daily thing they did voluntary I was just curious if Kansas kids could do that. They were training at a different facility than the school. I just thought it was cool they were all there in the summer.

Kinda venturing off subject No it's not. If coaches are willing to work in the summer months without compensation then why not work the during the school year without same?

Get the schools and the clubs to work together ANY time of the year they want. That is one thing we here in KS need to do.It is BS the coaches in school can not work with the clubs and clubs cant work with coaches. Sportsfan02 Has never and will never be in it to help.Just a mouth with fingers.Never has any fixes.Sad

Before I fix anything, I first determine it needs fixed. To date, nobody has proven to me the system needs fixed. As I pointed out it seems to work for us and our club. Just because others are too lazy or uninspired to make it work for them, is hardly the fault of KSHSAA or me and mine. Are there things that could and should be fixed? Sure, but very few people on a public message board are able to see those things. It's much easier to just come on here and blast KSHSAA, the system, or even someone who disagrees with you!

I know for a fact that Oklahoma HS coaches can and do run FS/GR practices in their school facilities usually beginning after spring break and running through Fargo (late July). they can not coach folk style during the spring (I think) but they can do whatever they want with freestyle. so oklahoma kids are exposed to an entire additional season each year. Missouri, I believe also has a nice lack of limitations on what their HS coaches can do with FS/GR. I would do it for zero dollars (heck it would probably cost me money) if KSHSAA would allow it. It is almost un-American that KSHSAA tells HS coaches in Kansas you are not allowed to out work anyone.
All KSHSAA needs to do is allow HS coaches to coach FS/GR in March April May and Summer. And you would see Kansas wrestling skyrocket, we would immediately compete better on the national stage. If some schools want to give stipends great, if some schools will let us use school vehicles to transport kids to FS/GR tournaments great, those programs will probably develop even faster. if KSHSAA would just back off, and let HS coaches coach.
There are some outstanding wrestling clubs that doing FS/GR most of them are in Wichita, Kansas City etc. We have to drive to Dodge, which is fine (tough room great coaches) except it is an hour and half away. But guess how many people in Hugoton Kansas are willing to run a FS/GR club...1...and he is not allowed to do it with anyone older than 7th grade...that is ridiculous. Until the summer when all the introductory opportunities are over and its time for the hard core stuff.
KSHSAA limits opportunities for HS wrestlers and coaches in Kansas.

Josh,
To answer your question....we can do that in Kansas. The coaches can work with their athletes during the summer. Many coaches do have their team lift together and then workout on the mats together during the summer.
The issue is during the school year they can't work with them on the mats. They can work with them on strength and conditioning during the off season...just no mat time. (Having said that, I personally don't like the rule. I am just stating my understanding of it).
Someone earlier said we need to allow clubs and high schools to work together...a lot of us do. Us club coaches work very close with our high school coaches to ensure we are teaching the technique they want, scheduling training times during the off season, etc. If you mean work together as in practice together then that is a different story.
Jon, I am with you on the practicing with the high school kids as a middle schooler...don't necessarily agree with that rule.
