Just a reminder--the Air Capital Invitational,
sponsered by Wolfpack and WHY Wrestling Clubs is
well underway. We are planning to accept 1000 wrestlers. Deadline is 11-19-01 but I will accept up to Thanksgiving. We will bracket on Saturday. Remember will want to have a girls division as well, we will bracket the girls like freestyle.
We have some nice brackets and medals and we are planning to run a very nice tournament. If you are coming from out of town and need a hotel we have a block of rooms at the Ramada Broadview. Please make checks payable to Air Capital Invitational. If you need further information--call Jennifer Edison at 316-990-8914 or e-mail her at wrestlingpamama@cswebmail.com

Excuse me if I ask a stupid question, but how is freestyle bracketed? Just wondering, we have a daughter who will be wrestling there.

Thanks for your inquiry. I was referring to pairing. To all those out there with girls wrestlers. So far, I only have 12 girls. This is after sending actual flyers directly to the girls homes in 7 states. I doubt this will be enough to bracket adequately. I will be contacting all girls entered and making sure if they want to be bracketed with the boys. If so, I will do just that. We are also considering having a few exhibition matches for any girls willing. Any constructive thoughts or suggestions will be considered.

Thanks, Jennifer Edison

I am still taking late entries for the Air Capital Invitational, if anyone thought they were too late, please e-mail me and I will get you added on. Any other problems or questions. Contact me at the previously posted e-mail or phone number.
Thanks, Jennifer and Ed Edison

The principal difference between freestyle bracketing and the standard folkstyle brackets you are used to seeing begins in the second round. There is not a consolation side of the bracket; everyone advances forward until they are eliminated or the bracket is complete. Elimination usually occurs after two losses, although this may not be the case if more than one wrestler loses her second match in the same round, and there are less than three wrestlers remaining in the bracket after the elimination of everyone with two losses.

The advantage of freestyle brackets is that they can be done on short notice, since only the first two rounds are actually bracketed. They require more work during the actual event, however, since you must wait on the outcomes of the matches before you can determine how to bracket the next round(s).

To see a sample of the bracket, go to page 54 at http://www.usawrestling.org/USWOA/RULEBOOK.PDF , or if you have the USAW Rulesbook (it was sent to all USAW member coaches last year), look on page 104.

Nice job to Coach Ed and all of the clubs involved in the Air Capital Invitational. I thought the tournament was run well and the level of competition in several of the brackets was excellent. It's good to have a Kansas tournament in early December. We look forward to competing again next year.
